Though information about hemp and CBD oils has been ample in the past few years, many still are confused about the cannabis, hemp, CBD and whether it’s beneficial for our health to use products with these ingredients on the label.
I would agree that this topic has been more than confusing. In part it happens due to the developing and growing interest in the cannabis plan. And on the other hand, the experience using the compounds extracted from the hemp plant hasn’t matured to the level where all things are nice and polished.
The other day, I was talking to may friend about hemp extract vs cbd. Definitely I discovered a lot of inconsistencies in my personal knowledge about hemp oils and cbd oils. To clarify it to my own self, I decided to create a post that would be helpful for other women as well when it comes to creating a personal lifestyle trend or even choosing products for a skin care routine.
On we go!
Differences Between Hemp Seed Oil and CBD Oil
When you hear people talk about hemp oil vs cbd oil, you need to ask what they mean under “hemp oil.” You see, hemp oil could mean “hemp seed oil” or “hemp oil.” Let me explain.
While Hemp Oil could be used as a synonym of CBD oil, Hempseed Oil cannot be! Hemp seed oil is void of any cannabinoids. Here are some major differences to point out between hempseed oil and CBD oil.
Hemp seed oil can be produced from industrial hemp plant. CBD can be extracted from other varieties of the cannabis, marijuana included.
Hemp seed oil is squeezed from the seeds of the hemp plant. Whereas CBD oil is carefully extracted from leaves, stalks, stems of the hemp plant.
As hemp seed oil contains zero THC, CBD oil can contain 0.3% or less of THC (tetrahydrocannabinol that is known for psychoactive effects), the stuff that makes a person high. Besides, CBD products and CBD oil are regulated by state laws.
When buying products, do keep in mind that hemp seed oil has no phytonutrients, terpenes or cannabinoids which are super beneficial to a human body. There are some vitamins and nutrients that still have value, but to a much lesser effect if you are looking for the so called entourage effect when you are taking CBD oil and products with it.
Before you buy any hemp-based product, do read the product labels.

Hemp Oil, Hemp Extract And Cannabinoids
CBD oil, hemp extract and hemp seed oil, THC and its oils, cannabinoids and terpenes – it’s quite a list, enough to swim and swim through it! As a result, there is a lot of confusion in hemp products, cbd content and alike. However, don’t fret. It is simpler than you think.
But first, you gotta know that our body has its own unique and amazing endocannabinoid system. In simple terms, each one of us has neurotransmitters that bind to cannabinoid receptors. Hence when we consume a hemp-based product, it is only natural for the body to recognize them.
Here are a few things you may find handy when shopping and choosing the right personal care or skin care product for your self-care containing CBD or hemp or anything related to that family of ingredients.
Hemp Oil and CBD Oil are used interchangeably. These oils are produced from the hemp plant and do contain cannabinoids that have a positive effect on human body. These extracts are usually mixed with a carrier oil, MCT being one of them, and packaged as CBD oils.
When I spoke to a professional who is well-versed in hemp and CBD industry terms, he clarified that hemp oil and CBD oil have no differences. They can also be called cannabis sativa seed oil, where “cannabis sativa” is the name of the hemp plant.
MCT oil which consists of medium-chain length fatty acids is sometimes used to preserve the CBD oil from being broken down. CBD oil consists of long-chain fatty acids and can be better protected by MCTs.
Hemp Seed Oil is made out of hemp seeds and does not contain cannabinoids. Hence, CBD oil is much more valuable to our bodily functions and well-being. Besides, CBD oil can be used in a myriad ways to create different categories of products, both skin care and edibles or ingestible products.
Anti-Inflammatory Benefits of Hemp Oil or CBD Oil
CBD oil has anti-inflammatory effects on the skin. Being the largest organ of the human body, it is vital that we keep our inflammation down. The fact is that inflammation, especially chronic inflammation, is the culprit of the diseases. Using products with anti-inflammatory ingredients contribute to the quality life through how we feel, look and stay productive.
CBD has a powerful positive effect on a human body, as our body has the built-in endocannabinoid system, i.e., the body has receptors on the cellular levels that are a perfect match to connect with the CBD molecules.
Full-Spectrum CBD Oil vs Broad-Spectrum CBD Oil
You may also come across the terms of full-spectrum cbd oil and broad-spectrum cbd oil. What’s the difference?
Full-spectrum cbd oil is the hemp oil made of the entire hemp plant, including its stems, flowers, leaves and stalks. This type of oil contains 0.3% of THC as a legal amount outlined by the United States Drug Administration.
Broad-spectrum CBD oils are also made of the entire cannabis plant as well, but with one key difference. The THC levels are non-detectible.
“Broad spectrum CBD oil is a middle ground between CBD isolate and full spectrum CBD oils. It has all of the cannabinoids and other chemical compounds except for THC. It has all the beneficial chemical compounds except for THC, so you’re likely to gain some of the beneficial effects of the entourage effect.“
Hence the potential health benefits of CBD could take us in having products that heal eczema, psoriasis, and many inflammatory conditions of the skin many suffer from.

Pain Relief Menthol Hemp Rub
In recent years, more and more women use skin care products and supplements with nature-charged ingredients to build their stamina for anti-aging living. Without doubt, using quality personal care products charged by Mother Nature herself has its advantages for the physical and mental well-being.
There’s no need to reach out for medication when there’s a better way for pain relief. Menthol hemp rubs boast potent ingredients that effect the body on the cellular level.
Menthol is a natural terpene, an extremely volatile compound, found in plant essential oils, especially in conifer family. It has a soothing effect on minor aches and pains, hence it is listed as an “active” ingredient on the product label.
Aloe vera is also a part of the ProHEMP pain relief formulation. Using aloe vera adds Vitamins A and C to soothe and lower Inflammation. And inflammation is the culprit for a ton of diseases in our body, skin included.
Peppermint, marjoram and wintergreen essential oils create a fire-and-ice pain-relieving effect. Peppermint is on the cooling side of the toggle, and the other two oils are on the warming side. That is why you feel a gentle fire-and-ice sensation of the oil blend in the area of application.
Incorporating Hyaluronic Acid (HA) into the pain relief formulation helps to maintain the intercellular matrix of your skin. The presence of the HA helps other ingredients to absorb faster.

As a working single mom and teacher, I am always on the run and my stress is getting the better of me. Thanks for sharing about the healthful benefits of CBD. I may give it a try.
So good to learn the difference as there are so many products out there with hemp and I was confused
Monique,
That is why I dove into finding at least the very backs differences that exist and confusing regular consumers. So many other things that go into an account of a quality hemp, CBD product! We could write a book about it!
But this is a beginning point for anybody who wants to use the hemp, CBD products.
Interesting. I’m not a fan of Hemp/CBD ingestibles, but using it as a topical ointment or cream sounds worthwhile.
Shannon,
Knowing and learning what’s what in this hemp/CBD world clears the contradictions that may arise within us.
I did so by researching a ton of literature and interviewing over a dozen leaders and companies in the hemp/CBD/marijuana industry. Truly insightful it is!
Enjoy the topicals made with quality CBD ingredients!
This was really interesting to read and I learned a lot. I am interested in hemp and how they make clothing out of it.
Heather,
Industrial hemp has been used for centuries to make ship sails, clothing, and things for the lifestyle needs.
But with new technologies, we learn how to maximize the effect and effectiveness of the plant world.
Well i just learned alot in a short amount of time. I didn’t know there was a difference either. I’m definitely going to learn more about the many uses. Thank you so much for all the great information!
Sally,
It is so great to hear such feedback! Awesome that my time into research and its findings do help you, my audience!
This was very informative. I didn’t know the difference between them two.
Dana,
There was so much confusion in the terms before I decided to research it myself!
Now, I have more clarity what’s what and what to look for when I shop for a CBD product.
Thank you for the very informative article. I honestly thought they were all the same. (Duh) I have never looked into it but if it can help with inflammation, I really have to give it a try.
Sharon,
Not all CBD and hemp-based products are made equal!
Another thing you need to know and look for on the product label is the content of CBD per serving!
The higher it is, the more potent it is.
Many companies say they’ve got CBD in their products. But how much of the CBD, really?
Just keep it in mind! And go for the brands and companies who stick to the consistency, testing of the products, and 3rd party testing of the quality of their products.
This post is such a good reference guide to the different names and uses that I saved it so I can refer to it as needed. So much information to process and consider. Thanks for helping to clarify all of these terms.
Mia Rose,
Yes, it is a ton of information to process. And this type of information is a great reference guide when shopping and choosing the products for certain needs of the body.
I am glad you found it beneficial!
Lazarus Naturals has some great CBD products and some of the best prices anywhere. I found that full spectrum products work best for my arthritis. You want to make sure that the company you get it from uses third party testing to verify cannibinoid potency and freedom from heavy metals or other contaminants.
Chris,
I agree that the 3rd party testing is important when taking into the account the consistency and quality of the products.
Glad you’ve found your relief!
Never knew the different types I thought they were all the same. Definitely will have to check out the pain relief product.
Tara,
I decided to explore the differences, as there are so many claims that this products is better than that and so on.
Now, it is so much more clear what to look for in the ingredients list and on the label.
I have used items with Hemp in them before and I am not sure if they have worked.
I have fibromyalgia and I think that the muscles and the aches go into a spasm and just there is nothing to do about it but try and relax. I am interested in the honey straws as I have honey in my tea many mornings. I am interested in sleep health but I am a rare person who is allergic to melatonin.
Maureen,
I would really ask your health professional to recommend products with CBD or hemp oil.
The medical professionals that are experienced could steer you in the right direction. Just look for them in your local area.
Thank you so much for explaining this in a way that makes sense to me!
Rachel,
Happy to hear it. I was not clear myself what’s what before I dove into the details. Now, we understand it so much better than before. More to learn, and I’ll be posting new findings.
Thank you for this informative and educational post. I am a huge fan of CBD and its bountiful benefits and always have some on hand 😉
Melissa,
Awesome you’ve enjoyed the post.
I began writing it as I was really torn and unclear what’s what when people use certain terms. So now I have more clarity and choices to make when looking for a product to meet my needs.
Thankyou so much for the information
Great information! I really had no idea about the differences between the 3. Skin being the largest organ, it is so important to make sure it is healthy
Nishtha,
CBD and hemp products can be really good to our well-being.
Each one of us needs to be clear what they want, and go after the quality sources of products and ingredients.
Sadly, a big majority is forced into buying and using low-quality products.
very interesting compression post! I find both useful and fairly enjoy both. Never thought of seeing their usage as a competition. it definitely is an interesting approach
Lyosha,
Those terms can make the topic very confusing! At least for me. So I decided to dig in and get it clear to myself.
I love how you defined each oil here… I’ve never tried any of these though but good to know the difference.
Nadalie,
That’s what I wanted to do to understand the difference. I heard people use all these terms and more interchangeably, which creates confusion.
I never heard of this product; it sounds like it has many benefits from its thanks for sharing. I must look into it.
Laura,
If you mean the ProHEMP brand, then it is a quality brand with quality control production and distribution.
All depends what you are looking in a product with hemp oil or CBD oil.
Different amounts of CBD will create different effects.
I’ve been interested in CBD for many years now and still learn about this unique compound.
I am clueless about both actually lol I heard of CBD and its benefits but never got to try it. The hemp extract seems interesting.
The terms are so confusing that many of us simply give up in differentiating among the terms and give in to the marketing skit.
I am clear now what is what.
CBD has a powerful and positive effect on a human body, as our body has the built-in endocannabinoid system aka the body has receptors on the cellular levels that are a perfect match to connect with the CBD molecules.
I haven’t tried any products with any of these in them, so never really knew the difference. My dad has some of the pain cream, though, and he swears by that stuff!
Stephanie,
Learning and getting the facts straight and clear are the first steps before we use anything on our body.
For me, it is a fascinating journey learning on the CBD topic. So much untapped and unexplained in simple terms for the consumer population here! I am digging deeper into it.
I’ve always wondered what the difference is. I am so glad you made this post! It’s very helpful!
Crystal,
Happy you’ve got the differences as well.
During my research I paid attention to the inconsistencies in statements and fact-quoting.
The reason why such inconsistencies take place is in this tiny fact: Many people don’t pay attention to the terms when they speak.
They can say “hemp oil,” but in fact it is “hemp seed oil.” They say “hemp oil” again, but in fact they mean CBD oil.
Such frivolous term interchange causes all the dubious meaning.
What a great post for explaining the differences in these oils. I take MCT oil everyday as part of my diet – it gives me good energy 🙂
Awesome, Jocelyn!
MCT has some unique properties indeed.
I like the way some brands use MCTs for their skin care formulations which makes it quite a difference in the health of the ingredients list!
I had no idea about these differences!
Heather,
Not many do know. But I just wanted to learn more and make it clear to my own self first.
That’s how the post originated. And there are some quality products out there to go with, too.
I honestly never really knew the difference between these. It’s nice to know the differences now. I love using cbd oils myself.
Kathy,
There’s so much information that is not consistent and non-systematic. So, I decided to dive into it and make it clear to myself first, and then share it with you all!
