Brushing the teeth, pampering the skin on the face have become a norm. But what about scalp treatments? Most likely, scalp care falls out of your regular self-care routine. Maybe these facts will offer a different view of and some effective solutions to your healthy hair growth.
Scalp facials have become some of the best ways to strengthen and encourage hair growth by stimulating hair follicles in a gentle and natural way. Dry scalp may lead to dry hair, and eventually to various skin conditions. All that can be avoided with a simple home treatment – a scalp facial.
You can create a head spa environment to show off your fabulous hair any season, every time.
What Is A Scalp Facial?
Scalp is not readily visible to anyone, including yourself. But it is the important medium to which your hair is bound. The delicate skin of the scalp is abundant in sweat glands and sebaceous glands. Keeping the skin of your scalp free of buildup from natural oils, dead skin cells pile-up, product residue and dust is a prerequisite to healthy hair.
Learning the steps for an effective scalp facial could save you time and money. Most importantly, you will have an intimate understanding of your your scalp issues. Hence you’ll be able to tackle any unacceptable changes in your scalp health quickly. And that latter does include seeing a trichologist, a hair doctor, if it becomes necessary.
A scalp facial is a special care of the scalp skin to remove excess oil, dead skin cells, dirt and product buildup.
Without doubt, skin conditions like itchy scalp, flaky scalp, and even scalp psoriasis call your immediate attention.
Learn to identify whether your itchy scalp is dry due to its lack of care or there’s a more serious underlying condition.
Benefits of Scalp Facials
It’s the health of your hair that calls for regular scalp facial care. The best thing is that you only need to do it once a month to take advantage of the benefits it offers to your overall well-being.
The main benefit of a scalp facial is the increasing of blood flow around hair follicles. With an improved blood flow, the exchange between blood and a hair sack takes place. During such time, the damaging byproducts leave the sack and supportive nutrients enter the environment of a hair follicle.
Trichologist recommendation is to maintain your hair follicles clean and clear of oil and dead skin buildup by administering an effective scalp facial at least a once a month. For those with oily scalp, it would be preferential to tend to the scalp care about two times a month. In fact, oily hair does not mean you need to wash it daily! Frequent washing only encourages the secretion of the oil from the sebaceous glands.
Women with serious scalp conditions like psoriasis and eczema should always seek advice of their dermatologist to ensure new self-care practices will benefit, not harm their well-being.
Steps for An Effective Scalp Facial
Here are the essential steps for an effective, giving your a great relief and stimulating hair follicles, scalp facial at home. With quality ingredients for your hair, you sure can achieve brilliant results with your hair.
Step 1 – Pretreat Your Scalp
To get the best results from your scalp facial at home, you need to prepare your scalp skin for it. Based on the current condition of the scalp – oily, dry, congested – you need to choose the hair products.
However, you will be able to use the ingredients found in your pantry in order to pretreat the hair for a scalp facial. You can make your own pretreatment hair scrub in a bowl using effective ingredients.
Most of the time, such pre-shampoo pretreatments may contain the following ingredients: tea tree oil, peppermint, lemon, sage, rosemary essential oils. Citrus-based essential oils are a great way to invigorate and decongest the scalp.
As you can see from the list of the ingredients used in the pretreatment that they are antiinflammatory to soothe and stimulate hair follicles.
Apply your chosen and suitable for your hair condition pre-shampoo product or homemade hair scrub on dry hair.
TIP: Use small circular motions along your scalp surface to cover the most of its territory with the product. Scalp massage is the key to exfoliate, remove debris from the hair follicles and encourage an abundant blood flow to your hair base. Spend 3-5 minutes massaging the product into the scalp skin.
Use a shower cap to hold the hair and allow the mask to work overnight. Scalp facial at home can be easy and doable with the right accessories.
If you can sleep with such pre-shampoo treatment, it would be ideal. An overnight treatment will do a lot of good to the scalp. The oils will penetrate the skin and allow the dirt and any product residue to be lifted while allowing fresh blood supply to the hair.
If you don’t have enough time for a pre-treatment, find another day when you can use it overnight.

I am loving a few of these products and will have to snag a few to incorporate into my daily hair routine. Scalp health is important and that is something I have taught my kids as they never wanted to give their scalp a good rub down when washing… I don’t have nails but I always give it a good scrub. It feels so good!

No matter your biological age, with proper care, your hair will show its vibrance and beauty.
This sounds like a treatment that I would love to have. There is nothing quite like the feeling of when your hair has been given a good scrub, so a scalp facial sounds fantastic.
Scalp facial is one of the liberating moments indeed!
I’ve done hair masks and it really helps especially during the cold winters we tend to get up here in the north. But also I’m very outdoorsy so during the summer the sun can deal some serious damage to the scalp as well. Thanks for sharing about scalp facials! I’ll have to look into some of these products and try this!
Tammy,
Scalp facials are some of the basic ways to keep your skin and hair healthy. If you take care of the scalp skin, you may be up to a huge, pleasant surprise later in life – your hair would be as magnificent as it was when you were in your 20s.

My two sons are showing signs of baldness. I would like them to try the Rene Furterer Triphasic Progressive Serum. I hope it helps. Male pattern baldness runs in my family and I don’t want my sons to lose their hair this early. Thanks for letting me know about these products to promote healthy hair and scalp.
Eileen,
Anything non-toxic product and ingredients would be worthy of trying. Just don’t give up yet.
This is a great idea. I’ve never once done a scalp facial. I’d love to try some of the products you’ve highlighted here, especially the Pre-Shampoo treatment mask.

I’d support your options for great scalp facials. I do mine regularly. So easy, but, oh, so effective and worthy every minute of it.
This sounds wonderful. I may need to try this out. I see some really nice products here too.
Kathy,
Many of the products I’ve either used in the past or am using now. Also, I’ve included the products vetted by me personally, as I do not recommend anything that has toxic for us ingredients.
The first time I’m hearing of this. I will more into it.
Sonia,
Do more research and decide if it’s worth an effort. It definitely works for me and my hair.
Every month, I come up with a bit different product solutions to address the issues with my hair.
Feels so liberating and light after such a deep scalp and hair treatment.
I understand my hair better and how to take care of it, too.
That’s interesting and so weird that I had never heard of this treatment
Renata,
It’s one of the best-kept secrets in the hair industry.
Now that the cat is out of the bag, use it and take advantage of the results each scalp facial provides to you.
Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU! I needed this advice as I am more into self-care and deep care for my scalp. It has on my mind since my hair stylist said my scalp is bad a couple of weeks ago. So, thank you so much!
Amy,
It is so doable and will allow your scalp to get rid of excess oil, dirt, dust, and hair product residue.
Do it every month to see a difference in your hair. It will look lustrous and more manageable. In addition, the hair will be more wholesome and stop splitting at the ends.
You will see hair growth as a result of an improved blood flow to hair follicles.
My sister loves these products and uses them almost every day. Gotta send this to her.
Jim,
They’ll appreciate it when they try a scalp facial themselves.
First time I’ve heard of scalp facial, it’s really interesting and I think I should have one too soon. It’s been a while since I’ve treated my hair.
Why not have a self-care evening and do a scalp facial? You will thank yourself that you did it!
I have never done this kind of treatment ever, but it’s interesting, and I will definitely try this at home. Thank you!
Gervin,
Let me know if you don’t forget how you’ll have enjoyed it and the results for your hair.
I am prepping one for myself next week. I do scalp facials once a month addressing different needs my hair poses to me.
OMG this sounds SO NICE. Totally need to do this!
Krysten,
It could be your self-care spa night. Put on the music and go on!
After the night and a good shampooing and conditioning, you will feel liberated and free of any oil debris, dust, dirt and pathogens.
It’s the first time I’ve heard of a scalp facial, thanks for recommending these products!
Rose Ann,
The majority of the products I used myself. The rest have gone through my strict selection process. I use non-toxic self-care and beauty products. Meaning that the ingredients do not accumulate in our organs and tissues and cause diseases.
A scalp facial? First I’ve ever heard of it, quite intriguing!
Knashz,
And scalp facial is the one that takes care of many hair problems! Try one.
Never heard of a scalp facial before. Great tips on how to do one!
Erin,
I think a scalp facial is a direct reflection of what’s going on during the treatment.
The ingredients in hair products are designed to clear, clean, release hair follicles from all the debris and dirt. Truly liberating it feels after this treatment.
This sounds like my wife’s idea of heaven and relaxation. Maybe I’ll win the good husband award if I set this up for her 😉
Gavin,
You would be the #1 Hubby for sure when you set this whole thing up!
Share with her this idea and get the right products to treat her scalp. She will thank you.
I need to do this so bad. My scalp is dry, flaky and itchy. I’m sure it’s from the products I use.
Monica,
I will update my post with the quotes from Dermatoligists who address an overly dry or flaky or both scalp to the hair products a person uses.
They recommend to stop using any hair products to see if the itchiness stops.
But to determine if the flakiness stops, you gotta do a deep cleansing of the scalp area first.
This easy to do and affordable self-care project can only benefit your hair health and scalp health.
Try it. Just make sure that the products you use have non-toxic ingredients in them.
I had no idea about scalp facial and the different ways to treat it. I know people who have excess oils in their hair and could benefit from reading this. Sharing with them this week.
Fatima,
Scalp facials are some of my favorite ways to see if the hair responds to the treatment.
I do it once a month addressing different issues of my hair. Feels beautiful and light after such a deep scalp treatment.
This is the first time I heard or read about a scalp facial. I do suffer from hair fall and I guess my scalp needs some help right now. I am going to check out these products soon.
Eileen,
The thing is to take the 1st step towards your deep cleanse and detox of the scalp.
It is a pretty easy thing to do. All ingredients/products are available and are worthy of a small investment.
I definitely only have time to do it once a month. I could REALLY use this.
Kita,
When I started doing it, it seemed like a rocket science.
When you’ve done it once, the rest is history. You will be craving for more. The results after the deep cleanse and conditioning are stunning. At least to me they were.
This sounds great. I may need to give some of these a try. I have never had a scalp facial before.
Kathy,
Now that you know about a scalp facial, you gotta do one as a minimum!
This sounds like a treatment that I need to try. My scalp will feel so nice afterwards.

Ben,
For sure you can enjoy and benefit for a hair facial. In fact, it is equally advantageous for men and women.
Winter is harsh on my scalp. Going to try this and let you know if it helps.
