No doubt, hair damage and hair breakage during menopause are a serious concern for the women experiencing it. The reason is that these debilitating hair changes could eventually lead to less hair coverage of the scalp. And on the psychological side, a woman can experience a real internal, emotional trauma.
Hormonal changes become a common cause for hair thinning and hair fall in women during menopause. Once gorgeous and strong, the hair could experience a sudden thinning. And the itchy scalp could make everyday life miserable as well.
Good news is there are hair care products like thickening shampoo and hair masks, and lifestyle changes that include a healthy diet that develop and produce an improved and healthy hair growth.
Let me share some of the best hair care products for menopause hair.

Importance of Scalp Health for Menopause Hair
The skin on the scalp plays several important roles in maintaining the health and functionality of the head. Here are three primary roles of the scalp skin.
Protection of the Skin and Hair Follicles
The scalp skin acts as a protective barrier for the underlying structures of the head, including the skull, blood vessels, and nerves. It helps shield the delicate structures from external elements, such as harmful UV radiation, pollutants, and physical trauma.
Additionally, the scalp’s thick layer of skin provides insulation, helping to regulate temperature and prevent heat loss from the body.
Hair Growth and Maintenance
A fact is the scalp skin plays a crucial role in supporting hair growth and maintenance. It houses numerous hair follicles that produce and nurture hair strands. The follicles are responsible for the growth, cycling, and shedding of hair.
In addition, the scalp’s blood vessels supply nutrients and oxygen to the hair follicles, promoting healthy hair growth. Furthermore, the scalp’s sebaceous glands produce sebum, an oily substance that moisturizes and protects the hair and scalp.
With time, the oil, dirt and other debris would accumulate not only on the hair strands, but also on the scalp’s skin. Hence we need to effectively remove them to allow the naturally enhanced defense to function at its best.
A scalp facial is a special care of the scalp skin to remove excess oil, dead skin cells, dirt and product buildup.
Sensation of the Scalp Skin
Did you know that the scalp skin is rich in nerve endings, making it highly sensitive to touch, temperature, and pain? This sensitivity enables us to perceive sensations, such as itching, tingling, and pain, on the scalp.
And the sensory feedback from the scalp helps us respond to stimuli and adjust our behavior accordingly, such as scratching an itchy scalp or avoiding excessive heat or cold.
Besides, using the right and of best quality hair products would minimize the formation and development of the dandruff.
As you may know accumulation and excess of dandruff affects your scalp’s microbiome!
The healthy scalp enjoys the friendly to the skin bacteria (Propionibacterium acnes). However, the unhealthy, full of dandruff scalp is houses pathogenic bacteria (Staphylococcus epidermidis).1
FACT: Salicylic acid is often used in hair care products to exfoliate the scalp and remove excess oil, dead skin cells, and product buildup. By keeping the scalp clean and unclogged, salicylic acid promotes a healthy environment for hair growth.
Scalp Skin And Facial Skin Connection
Your scalp consists of the same cells as your facial skin. The main differences between the two are that scalp skin has more hair follicles and oil glands. And it is thicker than the skin on your face.
Your skin’s beauty and youth relies more than just lotions and potions for the facial use! For example your Scalp health is one of the key elements in how well your skin will look and “fit” your facial bones/skeleton and muscles.
Hence what you do to your scalp is in direct connection to your skin’s well-being and a true anti-deterioration process. We all age. However we can take the preventative measures against the negative factors we can control.
You see, the skin on your head/scalp plays a super important role for many processes and functions as you’ve seen from the above paragraphs.
Allowing the scalp skin to just be there as you age could lead to some physical and morphological changes. To avoid any discomforts and stagnation of the connective tissue under the skin that can get sticky like glue, you need to regularly massage your scalp skin.
Myofascial release to the rescue!
The Best Products Have Non-Toxic Ingredients!
Prevention works much better when addressing the hair and scalp skin needs in a timely fashion. Menopause is no joke. Hormonal imbalance can easily aggravate the menopausal symptoms (hot flashes, moody swings, changes in blood circulation, hair density and hair volume).
While the changes hair quality are primarily related to estrogen and progesterone levels, certain vitamins, including B vitamins (B3, B6, B9), vitamin E, and vitamin C, can play a supportive role in maintaining hair health and mitigating the effects of menopause.
Here are some of the best-researched and tested ingredients you need to be on the lookout when reviewing the Ingredients list for any hair care product. Obviously you won’t find all the below discussed ingredients in one product. This is a reference list you need to keep in mind and choose the products that have these ingredients.
The Best Vitamins for Hair Health During Menopause
Strong hair is possible during menopause. By incorporating these vitamins into their diet or through supplementation, and using hair care products with these ingredients, menopausal women can support their hair health and potentially minimize the impact of hormonal changes.
Vitamin B3 for Thinning Hair
Niacin helps improve blood circulation to the scalp, promoting nutrient delivery to the hair follicles. It supports the production of keratin, a protein that strengthens hair strands. Adequate niacin intake can enhance hair texture and reduce hair thinning.
I would definitely recommend hair care products found at PURA D’OR. In fact, there are some of my favorites when it comes to strengthening hair and adding luster to the menopause hair.
– Original Gold Level Shampoo which is an anti hair-thinning formula, get it
– Deep Moisturizing Biotin Conditioner, shop for it
– Advanced Therapy Biotin Shampoo, details and shopping experience
– Advanced Therapy Conditioner can be purchased
Scroll and read description for each of the above products to truly appreciate their contribution to your menopause hair care routine.
Vitamin B6 for Stronger Hair
Vitamin B6 is involved in the metabolism of amino acids, which are the building blocks of proteins like keratin. Sufficient B6 levels support the production of keratin, promoting healthy hair growth and reducing hair loss.
Vitamin B9 and Hair Regrowth
Folic acid, also known as vitamin B9, plays a role in DNA synthesis and cell division, including the cells responsible for new hair growth. Adequate folic acid levels can support healthy hair growth and potentially reduce hair loss during menopause.
Vitamin E Benefits for Hair Health
Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant that helps protect hair follicles from oxidative stress and damage caused by free radicals. It promotes blood circulation in the scalp, ensuring that hair follicles receive sufficient oxygen and nutrients. Vitamin E also aids in maintaining a healthy scalp, which is crucial for healthy hair growth.
Vitamin C for Fuller Hair
Vitamin C supports the production of collagen, a structural protein that plays a vital role in maintaining the strength and elasticity of the hair. It also aids in iron absorption, which is necessary for healthy hair growth. Vitamin C’s antioxidant properties further protect the hair follicles from damage and contribute to overall hair health.
It’s incredible what a series of hair care products like shampoos, conditioners and hair masques can do to contribute to fuller and shinier hair during menopause! Purador hair care products do it amazingly well. I like the fact that their products are clinically tested and contain zero toxic ingredients. Rather, their hair care line is formulated out of an amazing collection of plant extracts, oils and vitamins. Super encouraging when I read the labels for their products!
As you see the B vitamins and vitamins C and E are incredibly potent when they are found in your regular diet and in the formulations of the hair care products you use.
Hair Care Ingredients to Minimize Hair Loss In Menopause
Look for these anti-hair loss ingredients in your shampoos, hair conditioners, hair masks, and hair oils. These are some of the best ingredients to strengthen the hair to prevent its thinning and loss. Menopause is the time to add a special touch to your hair. To know is to be prepared and armed with the knowledge for the beautiful, luscious hair.
Saw Palmetto and Degree of Hair Loss
Saw palmetto extract is derived from the fruit of the saw palmetto plant. It has been studied for its potential to block the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT), which is associated with hair loss. By inhibiting DHT, saw palmetto may help reduce hair thinning and promote healthier hair.
Aloe Vera To Support Menopause Dry Hair
Aloe vera has soothing and moisturizing properties that can benefit the scalp and hair. It helps reduce scalp inflammation, balances the pH level, and promotes healthy hair growth. Aloe vera gel can also strengthen the hair strands, reducing breakage and brittleness.
Green Tea for Hair Regrowth
Green tea is rich in antioxidants, particularly catechins, which have been shown to promote hair growth. Green tea extract can help reduce DHT levels, improve scalp health, and stimulate hair follicles, potentially preventing hair thinning and loss.
Castor Oil for Thicker Hair
Castor oil is rich in ricinoleic acid, which has antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties. It can help moisturize the scalp, improve blood circulation, and strengthen hair follicles. These benefits may contribute to reduced hair loss and improved hair thickness.
Rosemary Oil for Scalp Massage
Rosemary oil has been traditionally used to stimulate hair growth. It helps improve scalp circulation, promotes nutrient delivery to the hair follicles, and may help inhibit the activity of 5-alpha reductase, an enzyme involved in the conversion of testosterone to DHT.
Hence it would be amazing if you take a couple of minutes and massage a tiny bit of rosemary oil into your scalp skin.
Check out some tested rosemary essential oil hair masks I use regularly from the convenience of my home spa!
Olive Oil As Hair Conditioning Agent
Olive oil is known for its moisturizing properties. It can help nourish and condition the hair, reducing breakage and improving overall hair health. It also contains antioxidants that protect the hair follicles from oxidative stress.
You can also include olive oil into your healthy diet. The essential fatty acids, such as omega-3 and omega-6, are crucial to nourish the hair follicles, strengthen the hair shaft, and promote overall hair health and growth.

One of the biggest parts in my audience is women in menopause. However, about 1/4 of that audience are women who are in menopause due to the medical condition, surgery or accidents. You don’t need to be of menopause age to go through it.
