Not only are DIY hair masks easy and inexpensive to do at home, but they can also give you shiny locks and help banish itchy scalp and flakes. Here are a few hair care tips that could make a difference in your life.
How to Make an Easy Homemade Hair Mask
What you need to know is that making a quality hair mask is not a rocket science. All you need to know about is the ACTIVE INGREDIENTS with the properties to support your hair growth, strength and quality. Plus, you need a good BASE MEDIUM to make a mask.
Once you’ve chosen your BASE + ACTIVE INGREDIENT, mix up your hair mask in a bowl, rub it into your scalp and hair and leave it on for about 20 minutes to allow the mask to work its magic before shampooing it out.
Base Ingredients for DIY Hair Masks
A base for a hair mask can be either oil-based or ingredient-base. The base is a powerful moisturizing agent that allows other ingredients to blend well with it. Check out examples below.
– Honey
– Yogurt
– Plant-based oils like Olive, Coconut and Avocado
HONEY has great anitbacterial benefits to protect hair follicles and allow them to develop properly. As a natural humectant, honey attracts and locks in moisture while killing bacteria. These emollients will hydrate the scalp while decreasing inflammation and scaling.
YOGURT is one of my favorite ingredients for DIY homemade masks. Be it hair or skin, yogurt is a fantastic base for a nourishing mask. A fact that Greek yogurt is high in protein will contribute to the strength of your hair follicles.
Plus, yogurt acts as an exfoliator. Use it to allow all the dead skin cells to slough off and allow new generation cells to replace them. Just add some active ingredients into the yogurt base and lovingly smother a mixture into your hair for a rich and nourishing mask.
Oil Base Delivers Moisture, Strength and Growth to Your Hair
OLIVE OIL is yet another stellar base ingredient for your hair mask. Being high in vitamins, olive oil can help to regain luster by replenishing protein in your hair strands. In addition, thanks to its weight, you can expect your hair gain some luster due to added hydration to your locks. It’s a perfect base to fight frizz year round.

COCONUT OIL is yet another amazing base for any of your skin and hair DIY masks and recipes. It melts easily and provides a lasting hydration to the hair.
When applying a mask with a coconut oil base, your cuticles receive an ample amount of hydration. And that can help your frizzy hair to stay sleek and well-moisturized.
Women with a dry scalp could benefit from this readily available ingredient.
AVOCADO OIL or even a mashed avocado is a terrific base for a homemade mask. Use it during the day or even overnight. Avocados are rich in vitamins A, C, D and vitamin K, B6, magnesium and amino acids.
Active Ingredients for a DIY Hair Mask
– Essential oils like Lavender, Lemon, Clary Sage, Geranium, Rosemary
– Banana
– Oats
– Lemon
ESSENTIAL OILS that are great to add into a hair mask for a more powerful health benefits are many. These essential oils improve hair texture, adding an anti-aging effect to the scalp. Lavender and Rosemary essential oils can be a ticket to lower or even eliminate itchy scalp, too. Try to experiment with different options to achieve the best hair results in your personal situation.

For those women who are trying to improve their split hair situation, a hair mask using mashed BANANA could help! Bursting with vitamins B6, B12, and magnesium, this flavorful cocktail will add the needed resistance to breakage or split ends in your hair.
Using OATS as an added ingredient in your hair mask can add the following benefits to the hair. For those of you who use color on your hair, skip LEMON in your hair mask! But for the fair and blond hair, lemon can act as a purifying ingredient. Lemon also acts as a stimulant for hair growth. Use it in your rinsing routine after shampoo and conditioner.
Cleansing Salt and Olive Oil Hair Mask DIY
If you experience a congested, flaky hair, maybe your hair follicles are overreacting. Or the flakiness could be a result of hair product buildup. A deep cleansing hair mask would be a huge companion to your self-care routine. The ingredients are affordable and available from your pantry.
– 2 Tbsp olive oil
– 2 Tbsp lemon juice or apple cider vinegar
– 1-2 Tbsp sea salt
The fatty acids in olive oil provide a great protection for individual hairs against damage. Lemon juice or apple cider vinegar dissolve dirt and product residue collected on the scalp and around hair follicles. And salt exfoliates the scalp skin. These simple ingredients can be a huge game changer in your hair quality.
Besides, rinsing with apple cider vinegar solution after each hair wash adds luster and shine to the natural hair color.
