Menopause is not the end of youth and beauty in a woman. It is a new way of taking care of your skin, scalp skin included. The other day I had a conversation with a group of my clients who shared their concerns about the changes in their hair quality. And what really stood out was their total omission of the care of the skin of the scalp.
A fact is that scalp skin must be maintained in health for the hair to continue to grow and bring joy to its owner. The scalp skin is super delicate, abundantly populated with sebaceous and sweat glands. To keep the surface of the scalp clean and supportive of hair growth, you need to take a regular care of the scalp!
Check out my detailed post on scalp facials from the convenience of your home!
Besides daily care of the scalp skin, you may want consider a good protection of your hair and scalp skin from the damaging effects from the UV radiation. And following some basis scalp care tips can prevent the unpleasantries such dry and oily scalp and hair.
Scalp And Hair Issues In Women During Menopause
Hormonal changes during menopause supported by the layers of personal lifestyle habits could lead to many scalp conditions. And such conditions can affect menopausal women emotionally along the physical changes in their hair quality. So, what are these common scalp conditions we are talking about?
Dry Scalp Issues During Menopause
With hormonal changes and fluctuation, women in menopause can experience itching and irritation of their scalp. It is explained by the diminished production of oils in the skin which leads to dryness and flakiness
Hair Thinning and Hair Loss In Menopause Woman
Menopausal women may experience hair thinning and even hair loss due to decreased levels of estrogen, which can affect hair follicles. This condition is known as female pattern baldness or androgenetic alopecia and can result in a noticeable reduction in hair volume.
Dandruff and Seborrheic Dermatitis Triggered by Menopause
The hormonal changes associated with menopause can also disrupt the balance of oils on the scalp, leading to an overgrowth of yeast and the development of conditions like dandruff and seborrheic dermatitis. These conditions can cause flaking, redness, and itchiness on the scalp.

How To Use Red Light Therapy for Hair Health
I’ve talked about red light therapy benefits for women’s skin during menopause. Incorporating the tools with stimulating red light therapy for your scalp skin would encourage the metabolism in your hair follicles. And that means, your hair would get more blood circulation and nutrition to grow and thrive.
Though red light therapy is not a new kid on the block, the tools that use it in a creative and affordable way are still hard to come by. Unless, of course, you are getting a special hair care treatment in a medical spa.
Among a few brands on the market, I chose to go and present to you YAMAN hair dryer with some nifty features and combinations for your hair care. You can shop for it HERE.
YAMAN Spa Styler Blow Dry + Scalp Massage
If and when your scalp skin calls for more care and attention, gentle massage and red light therapy could come to your side.
YAMAN Spa blow dryer incorporates several features into one design. In fact, you can enjoy a faster drying time, scalp massage, and stimulating red light therapy right with one tool! And in your own home spa. Ahh, truly incredible.
Check out some of my favorite features, and how they support scalp health.
– The exclusive Scalp Lift attachment delivers warm airflow plus 100 vibrations per second to relax and soften stiff scalp to help promote healthy hair. You probably do remember those incredible massages at the spa. Now, you can enjoy them with your personal YAMAN SPA tool.
– Red light + infrared technology help stimulate both scalp and hair. This helps the strands retain interior moisture by gently heating from inside and out. Infrared light is a soothing, anti-inflammatory and plays the key role in bringing more blood to the hair follicles.
– Ion Reset Technology quickly eliminates static flyaways, helping reduce frizz for a smoother, salon-quality finish.
How Often Should You Use Red Light On Your Scalp?
I’ve checked with a dermatologist, and she recommended to use red light therapy on the scalp for 2-3 times a week.
Scalp massages could be done daily with your own finger tips. Overstimulation is not good either. So, use these tools responsibly and sensibly.
YAMAN SPA Styler for Straight and Wave Tresses
And if you want to change your hair looks and go curly or smooth straight, then YAMAN Spa Styler would be handy. Check out its features!
– Moisture Pulse Technology emits millions of negative ions to seal-in moisture and help reduce static frizz for smoother, shiner tresses.
– Triple heater and tourmaline ensure even, efficient heat distribution for beautiful results in a single pass.
– Rounded plates and a curved barrel allow for sleek, straight locks or easily created waves.
– Red light + infrared technology helps strands retain interior moisture by gently heating from inside and out.
You can shop for YAMAN Spa Styler for your straight or curly hair styling HERE.

I have been lost in thoughts on what blowdryer I should get or the hair tool I should use on my newly grown hair after having it cut down short. I always like to choose one that is meant to be good for my hair and easy to use. This is one designed set of tools I’ve never seen before and looks quite amazing, especially what you’ve mentioned about it. Maria,
Your hair dryer may be too drying for the scalp skin and your hair. The best way is to ask your local trichologist or dermatologist on the way to care for your hair. It’s worth it!

As far as LED infrared light therapy for the scalp skin, the principle is the same. It’s just it hasn’t become wide-spread yet. But the tools for hair growth stimulation have been on the market for the past decade.
Slowly, but surely, the home spa tools are coming into our homes.

This blog post offers valuable insights on a topic that is often overlooked. Menopause is a natural phase in a woman’s life, and it’s heartening to see the emphasis on maintaining both skin and scalp health during this transition. The scalp’s role in supporting healthy hair growth is crucial, and taking regular care of it is a significant step in ensuring your hair continues to thrive. A reminder that self-care extends to all aspects of our well-being, even the often neglected ones. Great advice!
Sue-Tanya,
Self-care is the key word!
It allows us to pay attention to any changes in the body and take timely care.
I get a dry scalp now so I wonder how bad it may get during menopause. Thanks for sharing some solutions for those going through this to keep their hair looking nice x
Rhian,
Don’t wonder, just begin your daily taking care of your scalp skin. With time, you will see dramatic improvements.
I would also recommend reading my detailed post on Scalp Facials here ==>https://celebratewomantoday.com/scalp-facial-at-home/
You can take control on the state of your skin and scalp skin as well.
I’ll be passing this on to my mom who was just talking to me about her hair density and how thin she feels it has gotten. Thanks for sharing and keeping the convo on Menopause going!
Tammy,
What really could help is the KeraFactor products. Do give it a try. Truly a life-changing product.
Thank you so much for sharing this! My scalp gets incredibly dry in the winter.
Beth,
What could assist you in revamping your hair normal oiliness and beauty is your daily massage with finger tips. Do it in the morning and evening and during the day, too.
What it does is to stimulate the blood flow and also the lymph flow! Both are essential in feeding hair follicles and taking away the by-products.
It is important to take care of our scalp. So glad these tools are made for that. I will check those out!
Nikki,
I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the Red infrared light incorporated into a hair dryer. Massage + light therapy a couple times a week is all I need now.
I appreciate the emphasis on maintaining a healthy scalp for the overall well-being of our hair. The common scalp issues discussed were enlightening, and it’s good to know I’m not alone in experiencing these changes.
Lavanda,
What really is cool that we all can and should make the necessary changes to our routines. And not being afraid to try new tools and products.
I have to admit my hair is suffering at the moment, I will be trying some of this to help improve my hair
Samantha,
Don’t be discouraged! Lot so options and tools are out there.
I would recommend to speak to your either your dermatologist or trichologist. By doing so, you will know for sure what’s going on.
Sometimes, it is the lack of certain minerals and nutrients our bodies are lacking. Sometimes, the outside tools like KeraFactor and Red light therapy hair dryers could be your amazing supporters in overcoming your conditions.
