Here’s what I learned of cooking fish in air fryer. Creating and testing out recipes in an air fryer is a critical thing to do. Once the cooking time for a certain recipe has been established, it is easy peasy to make a nutritious and flavorful meal.
I have made some amazingly delicious foods inside one air fryer. And if you question whether cooking food in air fryer is a healthy thing to do, then I do have an answer to this question as well.
Power Air Fryer Is Safe for Your Health. I have done research and read some studies as well. My referenced post has the facts and top reasons to prepare meals in the air fryer.
How Do You Figure Out Air Fryer Cooking Time?
The main difficulty that can arise while trying to prepare a delicious and meal is knowing its cooking time.
When I got my PowerXL Vortex air fryer, I quickly dove into a cooking booklet that came as part of the deal. But when I make my first recipe from that recipe booklet, it was totally inedible. The entire meal was burned. I decided to figure out what the ultimate temperatures were for each of the recipes I know I’ll cook again and again.
The two fool-proof things to do when trying to figure out the optimal solutions for cooking in a new gadget is, first, lower the cooking temperature, and, second, lower the cooking time.
It is beneficial to check the preparedness of the food midway during its cooking.
Cooking Method of Fish In Vortex Air Fryer
Using PowerXL Vortex air fryer is easy. With a push of a button, you can either choose the pre-programmed food cooking with certain temperature regimes for: Fries, Roast, Bake, Shrimp, Chicken, Steak, Pizza, Dehydrate and Reheat.
I have not used all the pre-sets, but I have already got a sense what temperatures I need to use to receive a perfectly baked meal.
This baked fish dinner is my first recipe I cooked with my own temperature and cooking times. Here’s what you need to know.
Cooking Without Additional Oil
The fish fillets for this recipe have been cooked without oil. The fish oils are natural moisturizers during the baking process. Even though no oil was used, the inside of the fish was moist and juicy.
Types of Fish Fillets for Baking in Air Fryer
The fish like steelhead, salmon, wahoo, arctic char, ocean trout, mackerel, striped bass, – all require a bit more time to cook than soft fish like Cod, Haddock, Mahi Mahi, Grouper, Pollack, Bass.
Fish Air Frying Temperature and Time
The fish cooking temperature in Vortex air fryer for the red fish is 20 minutes at 370 Fahrenheit. For the soft fish like cod, the cooking temperature is about 16 minutes at 370 Fahrenheit.
Adding Sauces to the Fish
When I cook with sauces, I add them to the half-baked fish filets after 10 minutes from the beginning of the baking process.
The steelhead fish filet you see in the images was braised with hickory Smokey Barbeque sauce in the middle of its cooking. I allowed another 10 minutes in the air fryer for the fish to be completely cooked. The flavor, aroma and juiciness were remarkable. And if you cook for the guests, the filets come out in a perfect shape.
Side Dishes for your Fish Filets
All fish dishes I serve with plenty of vegetables. This time, I chose asparagus which was baked in the oven while I was preparing the fish in the PowerXL Vortex Air Fryer. You can buy this air fryer HERE.
However, I did make small potatoes for a different meal using a “french fries” pre-set in the air fryer. By drizzling a bit of olive oil on the potatoes and savoring them with herbs and spices, they came out so delicious! I love a slight thin crust over a soft starch.
If you love the fish recipes, then this one is a great way to cook fish. Add your sauces, side food recipes and make it truly unique garnishing with your favorite herbs.
Baked Fish in Air Fryer
Make your baked fish with your favorite herbs and sauces while using the efficiency of an air fryer.
- 3 medium fillets of steelhead fish subs: salmon or wahoo, bass, bluefish, ocean trout, arctic char, milkfish
- Herbs and Spices to taste
- Smokey Barbeque Sauce or any sauce you love
Divide your fish into 3 -4 medium fillets.
Salt, pepper, spice it up to your liking fish fillets.
Place fish fillets into the air fryer.
Set temperature to 370F, set time to 20 minutes.
Open air fryer after 10 minutes of baking. Carefully pour Smokey Barbeque sauce or any sauce you like over fish fillets. Close and continue cooking.
Once the air fryer beeps – your fish is ready to be plated and served. I use vegetables like asparagus to serve with any fish.
Tip 1: If you cook 2 fish fillets, decrease cooking time by 1/3. If you cook 1 fish fillet, decrease cooking time by 2/3 from the listed in the recipe.
Of course, your individual fish fillets could be bigger or smaller. But the air frying pan gives you an approximation for each individual size.
Tip 2: If you are cooking fish varieties that belong to a “soft” fish like Cod, Haddock, Mahi Mahi, Grouper, Pollack, Bass, reduce Total cooking time to 15 minutes. Add the sauce half way through cooking at approximate 7th minute of baking the fish.
