Valentine’s Day Piñata Cake Recipe with Conversation Hearts Candy
Easy to bake, this Valentine’s Day Piñata Cake can be your unique way to say 'I Love You.'
Ingredients
- 1 box Cake mix, yellow or white
- 3-4 cups Frosting
- 1 bag Conversation hearts candy, 7 oz bag
- Wilton Spray and Seal optional
Instructions
-
Heat the oven as per instructions on the Cake Mix: 350 F
-
Make cake mix as per box instructions.
-
Line baking sheet with tin foil to cover all edges and corners. Pour cake mix into the baking sheet and spread evenly on the surface.
-
Bake 18-22 minutes, until lightly golden brown.
-
Cool the cake completely. I allow it to cool for an hour to assure that there won't be any frosting melting when we use it over the cake.
-
Use 5 inch cookie cutter to cut 6 Hearts.
-
Use 3 inch cookie cutter to cut the centers out of the bigger 4 hearts.
-
Optional: Spray the cake layers with Wilton's Spray and Seal – it reduces crumbs and stickiness. But if you do not have this spray, you will be OK.
-
Cut a small cake board into a heart shape, that is just a bit bigger than your heart cake. Or you can use any cake board that will hold your cake.
-
Set one full cake on the cake board. Pipe some icing around the edge of the cakes, then stack them on top of each other. Use icing sparingly. Frost and stack all 4 of the cut-out cakes.
-
Pour conversation heart candies into the center of the cake. Pipe frosting around the edge of the top cut-out cake and set the remaining whole cake on top. Use any remaining icing to fill in between the layers around the outside of the cake.
-
Decorate to your liking!
The Conversation Hearts Candy Surprise Is Inside!
What’s nice about this Valentine’s Day pinata cake is that you can hide your own surprise items inside. Be it a very special occasion like a proposal or welcoming back your sweetheart from a mission like pregnancy or military duty, you can customize the message. Sky’s the limit to your surprise cake!
Can You Freeze a Piñata Cake?
You can freeze a piñata cake if you really need and want to. A question that really needs to be asked is whether you intend to eat it after it’s been frozen. I know people who freeze cakes to showcase them, but in our situation it would be impractical. Yes, you can freeze this cake, as the piñata cake from cake mix is one of the best to work with.
You also need to take into consideration what you put inside the cake with surprise. Some candy may leak and change the shape after defrosting. It is up to you and your needs to freeze this awesome cake.
What Can You Put Inside a Pinata Cake as a Surprise?
Without doubt, the choices are so many when you think about tiny surprises you can add as a cake filling. From tiny candy to some elaborate gifts like jewelry, new car keys, dollar bills protected with plastic bag. It is up to you to surprise your Valentine on the day that many things are given because of love and kindness of the heart.
