Eating Propyl Paraben? Here’s Why You Should Reconsider It!
Last night I had a conversation with one of my friends who has many health concerns, mainly those that spring out from low immune response to any even tiny infections and inflammation in her body.
This morning I got this yet another newsletter from Environmental Working Group (EWG) that reminded me of Propyl Paraben that is being used in many foods.
It is a preservative typically found in many water-based cosmetics, such as creams, lotions, shampoos and bath products. As a food additive, it has the E number E216. – From Wikipedia
What is Propyl Paraben? It is one of many endocrine-disrupting chemicals that is allowed by the United States Food and Drug Administration to be used in our foods that we consume daily! Oh, it is listed as “Generally Recognized As Safe.” Really? But the devil, as we say, is in details!
Propyl Paraben acts as a weak synthetic estrogen and can alter Gene Expression!
It has also been reported to accelerate the growth of breast cancer cells.
What FDA is doing to eliminate the use of this chemical in our food chain? Very little – they have never taken action to do so.
Here’s a partial list of the foods that use Propyl Paraben.

Yikes! This is really scary! I have eaten some of these before, why on earth would they put this in our foods?
I’ll have to watch for this in the foods we eat. Thanks for bringing my awareness to this issue.
It’s sad what they put in food now! That’s why I try to eat organic and vegan much as possible.
That’s awesome that there’s such an extensive list. It’s a good resource. I’ve seen the term paraben on labels I think, but not known what it meant.
I’ve never heard this before, I had no idea about Parabens are in food. Thank you for sharing this information.
I am trying to cut out processed foods out of my diet. It really is scary what can be found in our food now a day!
I’ve seen the term “paraben” a lot when discussing cancer causing agents. It’s widely used and that’s very concerning. It’s in everything from foods, to shampoo, deodorant, and soaps. The US needs to crack down or ban foods/products with this included.
Parabens are in FOOD? I honestly had no idea, that’s so terrible. I’m usually on top of things like this (like avoiding trans fat or too much sodium!)
I’ve never heard of this before. But I always think it’s important to find out what it in your food. Thanks for the information.
Very thought provoking article. Thankfully I try to eat as little processed foods as possible. Who would have thought this would be an ingredient in trail mix?!?
I don’t like that it acts as estrogen. I am, or should I say “WAS”, a huge fan of Little Debbie Pecan Spinwheels, until I read this. We need to quit poisoning our bodies voluntarily!
This is so scary. I try as much as possible to avoid processed food but you cannot avoid certain things, can you?
It’s scary what people put into their bodies and don’t even know it, isn’t it? I’ll have to keep an eye out for the things on this list.
I have eaten a few of the things on the list, but not on a regular basis. I need to make sure not to eat them anymore.
