Make Your Hobbies LAST
Finding a hobby isn’t that hard. There are so many “hobbies” out there… just look on any social media, they are EXPLODING with hobbies of ALL kinds! So, finding the hobby isn’t the hard part. It’s keeping the hobby for a lifetime that becomes more difficult.
Let me FIRST, start by giving you the actual definition of what the word HOBBY means!
LEISURE TIME… PLEASURE. Well, that’s where I will start.
Find a Hobby That You ENJOY
If a hobby is supposed to be for pleasure, then people that hate to clean their house can’t call “cleaning” a hobby. Even if you feel like you do it ALL the time! For me, cleaning is one way I relax! So, I actually consider it to be one of my hobbies. I love to crank up some music and go to town cleaning! Sounds strange to some of you but that is what is neat about hobbies. My hobby doesn’t have to be YOURS. It is all about what YOU find pleasurable!
Don’t Jump On a Bandwagon
I know people who can see someone else enjoying THEIR hobby and decide they want that same results in their OWN life. Therefore, they jump right in full force and try HARD to get the same level of satisfaction out of that same hobby just because they see others truly enjoying it. Again, a hobby is NOT forced. It is ENJOYED!
Make Sure It Works Financially & Structurally For You
I love JEWELRY! I started my inquiries into precious gem stones when I graduated from college. The owner of a jewelry store where I used to buy my jewels was a Chinese man. He taught me a lot how to look for quality gems, how to tell apart a fake from the genuine stone. He also shared how what goes into selling jewelry successfully. One of the ingredients of that success is a considerable investment on the regular basis. I decided, I’d be coming to him to buy the jewelry I love and let him figure out all the logistics of the business behind it! Not my cup o’ tea.
Whatever hobby you decide to take on, think long term and see if you could really afford to continue it for a long time.
Never Look At It As a Job
I love to write. Blogging is definitely a hobby for me. If I think of it as a JOB (even though I could make a few dollars doing it), I will lose my enjoyment in it. So, even if you are making money, don’t focus on the money as much as how it makes you feel inside.

My hobby is blogging and I absolutely love it. I don’t think I’ve ever stuck at anything as long as I have this!!

Having a hobby relax me a lot, I enjoy moments while cultivating it. A hobby is something we love and we do with passion!
Wow, you are really skilled! I love DIY guides. But I am not very handy, so I guess I will continue playing football 😉
I love this idea. I think the best is when you have a hobby that you can actually make money at! That would be my ultimate goal in life. Such a gorgeous pendant too!
that’s so pretty. i don’t have the skill to make that but i admire the ones who can.
That is really quite lovely. Having a hobby you love is amazing, I know!! My MIL made jewelry and sold it at powwows. It was something she was good at doing. 🙂
Those are great pointers! I know I’ve had many hobbies that don’t last (usually because I’m jumping on a bandwagon and eventually realize it’s not that fun to me, or because I can’t financially support what I’m trying to do)…. it happens! 🙂
My hobby is making crafts. Right now I am obsessed with making wreaths to hang around my house for each season and holiday.
Hobbies are wonderful things, whether it’s reading or collecting or a combination of both. I love ceramics, and find it relaxing to sit & clean a piece of greenware, or glaze a piece of bisque. Wishing everyone that perfect hobby that makes their day!
There are so many choices on what to do as a hobby. I love plants, succulents especially, because they are low maintenance and they are really pretty. I also love to read. My only issue with these two hobbies is that I don’t have enough time to focus on them. My succulents only need to be watered one or twice a week and that won’t take long. Reading is something I would love to do on a regular basis, if I only had spare time.
Wow is that ever beautiful. Such a stunning peice. It really is important to have a hobby. Something that you enjoy doing and allows you to relax. Great tips.
Pinning down a hobby and doing it for fun/ leisure and being successful is difficult but worth it. It took me a long time to become what I consider successful at any hobbies – from gardening to cooking or even blogging! Great tips.
This really struck a nerve with me. A couple years ago, this was me. I had a lot of hobbies that none that I truly LOVED. Which makes me think you nailed that at lot of hobbies are people just jumping on the bandwagon. At least for me it was. I’m like you, if I think of blogging as a job I’ll lose interest. I’m glad to see another blogger find a good niche!
I too am like that. Writing is my hobby but when it becomes about money I completely lose interest. Im still looking for a hobby though but I do know it has to be something with computers cux Im tech savvy.
I’ve had people tell me over the years that I should open a catering company. I love to cook, but I think it would lose it’s appeal if it was my full-time job. I started my blog as a hobby blog and to share all the recipes and party tips that people were constantly asking me for. I never started it to make money and was pleasantly surprised when I began to get sponsored posts, etc. Even though it’s a money maker, I still love it. I wish cleaning was a hobby, but I’d rather be outside gardening. 🙂
