Role of Astaxanthin for Skin’s Well-Being
During our life and especially in menopause, skin is exposed to a variety of triggers that can directly lead to formation of dark spots or age spots on the skin. These spots are called hyperpigmentation. Just look at the family of triggers that cause unwanted hyper pigmented skin.
Triggers that Form Hyperpigmentation.
– The #1 is overexposure to UVA and UVB sun rays. The overworked melanocytes overproduce the melanin to protect your skin from the sun’s harm.
– Another significant trigger is Inflammation the that can lead to pigment being trapped in the papillary layer of the skin, thus creating the unwanted dark spots.
– Hormonal fluctuation during menopause or due to a medical condition.
– Trauma to the skin and scarring can definitely be a huge culprit for the pigmented skin spots in the places of damage.
– Certain medication can interfere with the melanin production cycle and trigger the overproduction of melanin and creation of hyperpigmentation. Such cases should always be discussed with your medical professionals.
Introducing melanin inhibitors (ingredients that suppress melanin production and overproduction in skin) is one of the key areas you can succeed in. Astaxanthin belongs to one of the potent antioxidants that protects skin from dark spots.
Astaxanthin has a unique ability to penetrate deep layers of skin, protecting both inner and outer cellular formations. Vitamins C and E, both very strong antioxidants, cannot do this job alone.
– Astaxanthin is one of those potent antioxidants that is 6,000 more effective than vitamin C. [1]
– It is 550 times more effective as an antioxidant than vitamin E. [1]
– And 550 times more effective as an antioxidant than green tea (ECGC). [1]
– Astaxanthin is a pro-oxidant, meaning it does not oxidize!

– Restores and repairs skin care protective outer layer.
– Protects skin from TransEpidermal Water Loss (TEWL), it means your skin will retain moisture and good turgor.
– Supports quality of collagen fibers, hence makes your skin look firmer and more smooth.
– Prevents overall premature skin aging.
By the way, I am giving it away as a prize within the giveaway that I run July 16-31, 2024. Enter for your chances to win at the end of this post.
Raspberry Seed Oil Benefits for Skin
You may already know that the main factor of aging of our skin is the sun’s radiation and deep oxidation and inflammatory processes within. To prevent unnecessary inflammation, protect from an on-going radiation, and offer a strong antioxidant defense, you need powerful tools. Raspberry Seed Oil belongs in the skincare arsenal.
Let’s profile raspberry seed oil’s main benefits that apply to skin directly.
Antioxidant And Anti-Inflammatory Activity
Raspberry seed oil is rich in many antioxidants that reduce internal inflammation within skin. It means this oil is beneficial to calm and sooth skin with rosacea, psoriasis and eczema.
With linoleic acid found inside the oil, your skin could experience a lesser propensity to acne breakouts, as the sebaceous oils will be more under control.
For those of you who want natural sources for collagen and elastin production, raspberry seed oil is the way to go. It stimulates collagen synthesis and slows down the aging due to oxidation and inflammation.
Overall, raspberry seed oil is a rich antioxidant to protect your skin cells from damage and aging.
If hyperpigmentation is on your skin’s radar, then keep a few things to protect yourself from this overwhelm.
– Consume high-antioxidant foods (raspberries are on this list!)
– Wear SPF (Sun Protection Factor) of at least 30 every day, sunshine or rain.
– Mind stress in your life as it triggers melanin production and could lead to age spots, too.
– Incorporate skincare products with ingredients that prevent, protect and lighten hyper pigmented spots on your skin.
Skin Hydration Protection
Plant sterols within raspberry seed are true multi-taskers. They protect skin from Transepidermal Water Loss (TEWL), thus ensuring normal functioning on the cellular level. They also play anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant and possess anti-cancer properties.
When you are looking at the ingredients in your skincare products, do notice if there’s any raspberry seed oil listed on the Ingredient List. And I say YES to fresh raspberries as well.
Can I Use Raspberry Seed Oil as A Stand-alone Sunscreen?
Though raspberry seed oil is a potent antioxidant and has UVA and UVB protection properties, you cannot rely on this oil alone! Let me give you some facts for reflection.
Raspberry seed oil offers UVA and UVB protections. It has a 28-50 SPF protection factor against UVB sun rays. However, it has only 8 SPF factor against UVA rays! And the UVA rays are the ones that increase the risk for skin cancer and skin disorders.
As you see, raspberry skin oil is not potent on its own to totally protect you from ALL sun’s radiation. However, protecting your skin from UVB radiation puts this ingredient on your Yes list. In addition, you can celebrate all the anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory properties of this ingredient.
FACTS: UVB radiation burns and affects the top layer of skin, causing skin burns and DNA damage.
UVA radiation penetrates deep into the skin layers, damages collagen and elastin, causing premature aging. Exposure to UVA rays increases person’s risk for skin cancer.

Having natural ingredients is just the beginning.
Natural does not mean it’s a Non-toxic ingredient.
And it certainly does not guarantee the efficiency of it inside the body.
Discovering and capturing the potency of a non-toxic ingredients is the superpowers we gain when using such products and skin care formulations.

Thanks for breaking all of this down. I am often unsure about which skincare products that would be best for my skin. I really am looking for anything that helps to reduce dark spots.
Skin care takes a learning curve. But it is totally possible to understand your personal needs your skin calls out for.
I have created courses and digital edu products for women during menopause and perimenopause. Hyperpigmentation is on the top of the list that needs to be understood first: how it forms; then, any woman has a powerful control over the actions she takes in prevention and maintenance.
Reach out if you need help.
Hugs!
