This post is very personal. But I would like to provide a message of hope and proactive determination for those women who need support or just the right information now.
About twenty years ago, I had a wonderful friend Mirabella (I changed the real name of this person). We were doing things together, traveling, going to the beach, shopping, spending time together with our families. Friendship was the best thing we had.
Then one day, Tom, her husband came and shared his concerns about Mirabella. The facts were that she was drinking and drinking heavily, hiding the liquor bottles in places that were not designed for that and finding any excuse to be left alone.
My time with my friend started to be limited due to her excuses she couldn’t meet that day. I didn’t know how to help or how to start a conversation with her. And it was tearing me apart.
Tom offered a solution of doing an intervention. After education and preparation for this event, it was done. The evil problem was confronted and dealt with. But at the end I lost my friend.
Mirabella and I remained on speaking terms for some time, but eventually our communication dissipated and ended. I think about it frequently. What could have been done differently, so that the relationships could have been saved while in the process of helping my friend?

Women are heroes. They have always been heroes.
Being heroes, they hide their identity behind the costumes of everyday life. Hidden from view, doing daily deeds unseen by others, they allow others to shine – the bosses, the kids, the men, the parents, the friends in their lives.

Thank you for this. I am going to forward this on- I know a person or two who could use this. Thank you!
Addiction is such a difficult thing to face. It’s hard for family and friends to see it and it’s hard for the person going through it. I used to work with people getting treatment – it was a very emotional job!
Thanks for sharing this. Unfortunately, there is no “right” way to deal with it, and like you said, the rear view mirror reflection only helps you in the now. This treatment center sounds like a good one – there are too many bad ones out there!
