Surviving Bad Hair Day with Effective Hair Care Tips

While you might spend ages getting your hair just right, the weather outside could care less. Different climate conditions laugh in the face of styling tools, blowouts and bangs. There’s nothing outside weather conditions love more than sneaking under your hair-shielding umbrella or hoodie to add a bout of frizz to your look.

But enough is enough, ladies. While we can’t control the weather, we can take the proper measures to ensure that hair doom is not imminent. With these tips, we shall survive.

Hair care is something I keep learning about every day. Weather, emotional and physical state, personal care preferences – these are just a few factors that change what the hair look like.

Survival Tip No. 1: Go Natural

Put down the hair straightener. I repeat, put down the hair straightener. The Hairpocalypse is no time for heat-styling tools. Take a shower and let your hair air dry. Whatever you’re left with is what you’re going to be working with this month.

In fact, it’s time to embrace whatever curl or wave you’ve been styling away from the world. Trust me, it’s beautiful, and with the right products and styles, you won’t miss the heat.

Please be aware that every one of us is unique. Hence you and I have certain and unique needs when it comes to hair as well. Don’t be afraid to test out various quality hair care products that may make a huge difference in your hair styling. I did just that! And today, I do have a collection of hair products that I use and interchange in my daily routine. In fact, the line of products that I keep using in my life is this one .

Check out what argan oil can do for the hair. You may be surprised.

Plant-based hair products become a potent player in the hair care industry. Just keep checking ingredients to ensure they are 100% non-toxic.

Do Natural Hair Care Products Work?

It’s been proven with hundreds, if not thousands of clinical trials that personal care products with organic natural ingredients contribute an anti-aging effect to the hair. What it means for your hair is vibrant, healthy looks no matter your age, when you feed and care for your hair accordingly.

When you incorporate shampoos and conditioners with natural and safe ingredients that gently cleanse and hydrate your hair, you become more powerful against frizzes and split ends.

For example, take a test drive with Rinse and Condition Duo from Mounia. The Mounia Rinse shampoo boasts of organic aloe vera and Rhassoul clay to cleanse the hair. Boosted with rose and pomegranate oil technology, this product removes buildup on your hair without damaging it.

Invest into effective hair care products with natural, yet results-producing ingredients.

When you treat your hair with Mounia Condition, you infuse organic cumin and flaxseed oil into the hair structure of each hair. Plus, your hair follicles get the protection they need to strengthen and protect the hair growth process. And if your hair has been through color treatment, biotin aka Vitamin B7 or “Beauty Vitamin” offers extra nutrients for your hair to say ‘no’ to different damage types. Check out this Mounia Rinse & Condition Duo HERE.

Revitalize Scalp Health With Scalp Massager

In shower and outside, give your scalp a good, yet gentle massage with the finger tips or with a scalp massager. Stimulating hair follicles with gentle bristles made of medical grade silicone is relaxing and beneficial at the same time.

In fact, you can use a scalp massager on wet or dry hair. You can shop for yours .

Hair Tip No. 2: Know Your Hairpocalypse Allies

Using Oil, Wax or Pomade for Hair Styling

These are our best defense against the onslaught of H2O. Wax and pomade are especially great for short hair and will help avoid the hair-plastered-to-your-face or mad-scientist frizz looks.

For my long, bottom-curling hair, my favorite weapon is oil – argan oil to be exact. It’s light enough to not make me greasy, and will lock my curls down and fend off frizz. Check out one of my favorites HERE.

Using superior hair care formulations with natural ingredients can not only boost the anti-oxidant resistance to your hair, they will make the hair more manageable.

Embrace Moisture in the Air

But wait, isn’t all the moisture in the air causing the problems? Think again. Frizz thrives in dry, damaged and heat-treated hair. You don’t want there to be any room on your “moisture bus” for April’s contribution, so make sure your hair isn’t thirsty by boosting your deep-conditioning game.

And for all my curly- and wavy-haired gals, get on board with cleansing conditioners. They won’t strip all the natural oils (aka your protective shield) that are made specifically by your body for your hair.

Survival Hair Tip No. 3: Try Hairpocalyse-Friendly Hairstyles

When I said “go natural” I didn’t mean you’d have to wear your hair like it’s Woodstock all over again. Here are some cute, trendy ’dos that will stand up to rain, humidity and wind.

Check out some fabulous hairstyles that I consider classic.

Top Bun: A bun is both compact and easy to keep covered. This is also an easy fix for when your hair gets testy during these hard times.

Fishtail Braids: Because fishtail braids will look great even if April messes them about. #winning

Half Up and Back: Natural (even poufy or unkempt) hair looks so medieval princess when you tuck or tie half up and back. Bonus points if you add a braid a la Game of Thrones. Plus, this look is rain-tested (see: the rain scene in The Notebook).

Messy Pony: Nice try, April: It’s supposed to be messy.

You could also use some quick hair mists that add texture to your final looks. For example, this Luxury Hair Mist by FRACAS de Robert Piguet. Check it out here.

Naturally occurring scents like cinnamal (from cinnamon), citronellol (usually derived from rose, geranium or lemongrass), geraniol (from geranium), eugenol (aka clove oil), limonene (from citrus fruits), linalool (natural alcohols found in spice plants and flowers) – all these amazingly aromatic ingredients create a mesmerizing ensemble of scents.

Headbands and Scarves: They’ll smooth back the hair around your crown, making you appear instantly well-kempt. These are especially great for short hair during the Hairpocalypse.

Have you talked to your doctor? It could be deficiency in certain minerals and vitamins. Better yet to begin your journey with a medical professional just to make sure your body doesn’t need certain vitamins.

    1. Dana,
I agree with you. The videos could be helpful to any woman who likes to experiment with her hair.

  22. These are cute! Thanks for the styling tips. You are exactly right about hair and especially frizzy hair!

    1. Lisa,
Frizzy hair can strike us any time, any season, and any weather. We all have unique hair and its reaction to different conditions. So, the more we know, the more powerful we become in the hair styling techniques and care.

  23. I need to try one of those scalp massagers. I’ve heard some great things about them. I’m loving these hairstyles too.

    1. Kathy,
Do keep in mind that many scalp massagers can be damaging to the skin. Hence choose from the medical grade silicone massagers, as they are soft, yet effective in doing their job.
In addition, even if you do not have a massager per se, use your finger tip! Begin massaging from the outer edge of the hairline, and towards the top of your cranium. Do it for about 2-3 minutes as a minimum to get the connective tissue soften and allow blood and lymph flow.

  24. Love these tips and LOVE natural hair care products! My daughter and I both have pretty long hair. Hers is past her belt. The weather absolutely takes it toil on our hair!

    1. Beth,
Long hair like your daughter has is something to envy about!
And yes, such hair calls for more care and attention to it.
Kudos to your baby to grow such a treasure!

  25. I wish my hair was long enough for most/ any of these styles. I bet the braid styles would be super cute even with the frizzy hair popping out.

    1. Angel,
Not all hair could use every single style. It could be frustrated, but we can and should find the styles that we like and enjoy.

  26. I love all these hairstyles!!! I wish I had long hair right now! A few months ago I cut it really short and now I’m growing it back. It’s taking forever!!!

  27. These are some great tip and I am going to share them with my nieces. One has curls the other is straight. But they both could use some ideals. Me my hair is short and most of the time is just air dryered

  28. My hair is on the short(ish) side so the hairpocalypse doesn’t really affect me much, but my daughter has hair down to her butt and it’s a LOT to take care of this time of year. Thanks for sharing your tips!

  29. Great hair styling tips, I am currently trying to wear my hair in a bun so me and April are definitely on

  30. Great hair tips! I need to learn to care for my hair better cause I am always putting heat products on it, and probably doing a lot of damage to it. I am trying to use less heat on my hair. Thanks for sharing! 🙂

  32. Great article for people who care about their hair. Lots of good ideas in there. I agree, don’t try to tame it, just go with it!

  33. My hair was damaged, i just cut a few inches to get rid of the split ends. And, I don’t color or use heat.

  34. These are great hair tips, thank you for sharing! I am the typical mom-bun every day mom, but I do like to switch it up. My kids love when I wear my hair down because it’s so rare.

    1. Sonia,
Just decided to go with short hair. Now, I am figuring my new style, again.

    1. Krysten,
Your short hair looks awesome. You make it look attractive and truly brilliant every time you show it off.

    1. Kathy,
Having options and knowing the possibilities can encourage us to try out more styles.

  35. I think I have bad hair days every day. Lol. I have long, thick, wavy hair. And most of the time, I just give up. I will just tie it in a bun or braid. And call it a day. But I will definitely try more hairpocalypse-friendly hairstyles. Thanks for these tips!

    1. Carmen,
I’ve been struggling with my hair all my life. Figuring out what to do with it, how to wear it, what haircut to have. It all has been really challenging.
But my hairstylist helped me to try different things and made this journey really interesting.

  36. Ooh this is the first time I’ve heard of the hairpocalypse term haha. And yeah, the top bun is my fave hairstyle, so easy to do, and it’s long-lasting.

    1. Hair buns are fun and can be versatile as well. Glad you’ve got your favorite style!

  37. These are some great tips. I usually go natural myself. My hair is super long, so I’m always looking for ways to style it though.

  38. These hairstyles are so cool! Thanks for sharing these videos. Anyone who’ll copy it will look gorgeous.

    1. Nikki,
Enjoy! I just cut my hair short, so I am in the limbo figuring it all out, again.

    1. LaShunta,
True, we need to give ourselves some time to figure out what we like and want.

    1. Tara,
Ponytails are cool and very easy to make. I am right now in the mid of figuring out what I like.

  39. I need to take better care of my hair. I have really long hair, but all I ever do with it is throw conditioner at it when I shower.

    1. Ben,
Hair is something that we all care about. We just need some fresh ideas here and there to create our personal style.

  40. I like the messy ponytail. I never do anything with my hair. I wash it, comb it, and let it air dry. I have naturally wavy hair so I’m lucky there.

    1. Lisa,
You are the lucky one. Making a messy ponytail has been one of my favorites for many years.

  41. These are some great hairstyle ideas! I love the first braid you shared! Thanks for sharing.

  42. My hair is always in a bun or supe messy pony tail. My son loves to pull my hair and use it for balance.

  43. I love all these videos and how much they can help me , because sometimes I just never know what to do with my hair loll And that video on how to tie head scarf is amazing, I often get confused on that loll thanks for share

  44. Lovely hairstyles, and just my length. I love the top knot. This helped a lot, I bookmarked it. Thanks for a great post and hair tips. 🙂

  45. These are great tips, I disagree with putting down the heat tools though. If I use a proper heat protectant and finish with a nice oil, like argan, my hair stays relatively tame (a lot tamer than it would without my flat iron!). I definitely think in this weather it is best to let your hair air dry first instead of blow drying. Blow drying gets you nowhere since you gosh darn start sweating!

  46. Those are some really cool and fun hair styles! I can’t wait for mine and/or my daughter’s hair to grow out some more to try some of them.

  47. I love all of these but the messy ponytail is my favorite. I am definitely bookmarking for later.

  48. These are super cute hairstyles. I wish my hair was long enough for… any of them. The head scarf tutorial is great! I always try to pull it off and it looks weird, going to try a few different ways now!

  49. You are certainly right about April. These hairstyles will surely help because not much else does.

  50. I’ve embraced the au naturale look lately, but
I totally need to learn the top knot thing!

  51. Great tips. My hair is usually such a mess in April that I always just keep it in a bun. Time to let it down.

  52. These are all great tips. Being a man I sadly do not need this tips. But having two daughters as a father I do. So thank you!!

  53. I generally go with the messy pony tail look or sometimes I’ll use one of the Lilla Rose clips and pull it half up. This time of year is not exactly hair friendly!!
