October is Breast Health Awareness Month, a month universally dedicated to educating women about the importance of early detection and treatment of breast cancer.
So many wonderful companies have jumped on the bandwagon, offering all kinds of products sporting the pink breast cancer ribbon and donating a portion of the proceeds to cancer research.
We all want to participate in helping find a cure for the cause, but I urge you to be discriminating about where you spend your hard-earned money.
Please make sure that your purchase does not help fund a company whose products put you or someone you love at risk for exposure to toxins that are linked to breast cancer. Known as “pinkwashing,” many companies continue to sell products containing carcinogenic ingredients in the name of breast cancer research.
When considering a pink ribbon purchase, please make sure you check to see if the company has a full ingredient disclosure policy and whether or not these ingredients are actually safe.
Let’s make 2014 a year of empowerment for women everywhere. Take action by
1. Demanding that pink ribbon products fully disclose their ingredients and are transparent about their breast cancer donations.
And
2. Vote with your dollar by supporting those manufacturers and companies that offer truly safe consumer products, and are dedicated to safeguarding your health, and the health of the environment.
I wish you the blessings of good health and timeless beauty.
