When it comes to skin care, I do a few things to benefit my well-being. Dry Skin Brushing is one them. Many of my friends ask me if dry brushing good for you. The answer is ‘Yes.’
Dry Skin Brushing Benefits to Take Advantage Of
One of the never-thought-of benefits of dry skin brushing is improving and promoting a better lymph flow and drainage. In my opinion, just having this benefits opens so many opportunities to keep our largest organ – the SKIN – healthy and glowing for the rest of our lives.
This is of profound significance to the immune system. White blood cells, or lymphocytes, are actually named after this major body system. Lymph circulates to our cells through channels independent of our circulatory system.
However, after it has done its work, it returns to the bloodstream through valves leading into the heart. Here, the white blood cells can fight the toxic agents that threaten our health.
Massaging the skin with a brush, combined with exercise, speeds up the flow of lymph and directly contributes to a stronger immune system and healthier body.

How Often Should You Do Dry Skin Brushing?
When I started my own dry skin brushing routine, I began with just once a week. I melded into this process slowly by learning a step-by-step dry brushing for skin. Now, I dry skin brush my body once a day. Though, many health experts recommend dry brushing twice a day. But for me, I am happy with my frequency of dry brushing at this point.
What I discovered in my personal journey is that my body felt “lighter,” I felt more open and motivated during the day, and I felt so much better physically after I’ve been doing it.
To help you start on your own dry skin brushing to enjoy your own health benefits, I will make a stand-alone dry skin brushing guide for beginners.
Why You Should Start Dry Skin Body Brushing Today
Aging Is A Fact of Life.
Looking Your Age Is Not!
Allowing your body to get rid of the dead skin cells will immediately improve your skin hydration. All those creams and lotions that you buy and apply to your skin are frequently wasted to a big degree. One of the reasons behind such waste is a thick layer of dead skin that doesn’t allow all actives to get through and into the skin to feed and hydrate it.
Exfoliating is a precursor to your skin renewal! As dry and dead skin cells are removed, i.e., exfoliated, it allows healthy new cells to form and show their glowing side. That is why once you start dry brushing regularly, you’ll get addicted to it!
When Do I Apply Oil During Dry Skin Brushing:
Before Or After Brushing?
It’s up to you. I apply a few drops of essential oil mix (carrier oil + a few drops of my favorite essential oil) onto the brush. I reapply the oil mix about two times during my body brush.
Some people apply a few drops of oil mixture directly to the body. It is OK whatever way you feel comfortable to body brush for success!
After the shower, it is an optimal point of dry skin brushing to apply quality moisturizers and oils to the skin. The oil will close the skin pores and lock in moisture so needed for your skin!
How Do I Do Dry Brushing for Skin the Right Way?
As we will be removing dead skin cells, clearing oil, dirt and residue from the pores with the brush, we need to follow a few rules for movement and storage.
Steps for Dry Brushing Your Skin
- Start with your feet and brush the bottoms of them in smooth, kind and soft strokes. Remember to make all strokes Towards Your HEART. The heart is where the lymphatic system drains! Brush each area with at least 10 long strokes to stimulate the skin, the muscles, and the organs when we brush our belly.
- Move from your feet to legs and continue to brush upward and around each leg. Don’t be in a hurry. Feel each brushing stroke and enjoy the aromatherapy from the essential oils you are using. Your mind will be relaxing and re-engaging in a new way with this activity.
- Move from your legs to your hands and arms. With long strokes, brush in upwards moves towards the upper torso.
- Move to your belly and use circular clockwise moves.
- Repeat circular moves under your armpits.
- Chest brushing: Move your brush towards your heart.
After you use your brush, feel free to spray it with a Tea Tree Solution. I make it in a 1:2 proportion of Oil to Water and store in a small spray bottle. Just spray the brush with this solution, then wash in clean water. I do it to get rid of the excess of the essential oil, as it may irritate the skin during the next round of dry skin brushing. I lay the brush down to dry before putting it away. Tea Tree oil has antimicrobial and antibacterial properties. Here’s my favorite pure Tea Tree oil I’ve used for years. Replace your brush every 6-12 months depending on the frequency of its use.
Does Dry Brushing Help Cellulite?
A fact is that dry skin brushing regularly drastically reduces the appearance of cellulite. This is an important element of detoxifying the body.
Cellulite is actually composed of toxic fat buildup that results in the wrinkling of the skin. Brushing dry skin is believed to tighten the epidermis and contribute to the breakup of this toxic material. This is much more economical and convenient than liposuction therapy.
The detoxification process can be further enhanced by taking colon cleansing, liver cleansing, and chemical and heavy metal cleansing supplements and exercising regularly.
Is Dry Skin Brushing for Everyone?
Though dry skin brushing brings so many benefits to a woman’s well-being, it may be too harsh for people with sensitive or overreactive skin and some skin conditions. If you are one of these people, DO contact your dermatologist to discuss dry skin brushing routine with her.
Every situation is different. Knowing the facts and the way body brushing is done allows each one of us to make a better decision at the end.
Be Good to Your Skin. You Will Wear It Every Day for the Rest of Your Life.
Do I Shower After Dry Brushing?
As I do my dry skin brushing routine in the morning, I take a shower right after it. I feel better as all the dead cells that slough off and wash away. After my shower, I apply lotions and moisturizers to rehydrate and feed my skin.
