Best Cookbooks for Healthy Eating

Some of the best healthy cookbooks I own offer easy recipe ideas I can modify. I love cookbooks that inspire me to create my own recipes for every day and for special occasions. One of my favorite food authors is Holly Clegg, who is a an amazing food recipes purveyor of style and simplicity at the same time.

One of the most recent releases that falls into the category of the best cookbooks for healthy family meals is The Nimble Cook by amazing Ronna Welsh.

The Nimble Cook is one of the best cookbooks for healthy eating
Get Inspired by the available ingredients to make the greatest meals ever!

I love this book and have already learned so much from it! Still, it reminds me of some of my childhood experiences when I was watching my mom and grandmothers cooking. From them, I have learned how to make food out of almost anything. Ronna Welsh reminded me of that and taught me even more. The Nimble Cook shows me how to use what I’ve got in the fridge and in the pantry as a springboard to my next family meal.

A great meal doesn’t have to be any more than an assembly of fresh, delicious things to eat. For the nimble cook, a meal is sometimes several different, simple-t-assemble plates of food for all to share, the separate dishes tied together with little ore than good conversation. – Ronna Welsh

This book is more than just a collection of healthy recipes. It is a guide that empowers every cook to transform mundane ingredients into inspired meals.

I am in awe with illustrations in this book. There are no photos, but eloquently staged pictures of foods and ingredients and flow charts. Every ingredient looks so real!

  • Store ingredients for longer life of convenient use: forming ground meat into patties, cutting lettuce into wedges, mixing herbs into butters.
  • Redefine a lasting, truly sustainable way to cook
  • Let ingredients, not recipes, inspire you – My husband always tells me that I never cook the same recipe twice. Which is true.

  • Cut down on food waste by utilizing ingredients for their fullest potential – Also, check out this all-natural solution to remove harmful residue and prevent browning in your veggies, fruit and berries, meats and fish for much longer storage.

How The Nimble Cook Book Is Different?

This cookbook is organized by ingredients. For example: Aromatics, Leaves, Heads and Bulbs, Apples, Oranges, Lemons, Fish and Shellfish, Poultry, Meat.

Each chapter gives both basic and original ways to prep and store the ingredients, followed by a variety of recipes that build on those starting points. As the result of such organization, you will feel liberated and encouraged to improvise.

I love tips and takeaways from The Nimble Cook! Take, for example, herbs.

“”Tank” your herbs: Instead of stowing and forgetting store sturdy herbs like parsley, mint, rosemary, sage, and thyme by submerging the in a container of ice water. This works better than putting them in a glass of water, and no, their flavor won’t leach out!
Delicate hers like cilantro, basil, dill, should be washed and wrapped in paper towels.”

This is a terrific summer read for any woman who wants to be inspired about cooking and saving money by handling food ingredients differently.

Best Thriller Books for Your Summer Reading

What is the summer without a good suspense book? These books are a fast read for me, because they suck you in and move through the pages with a lightening speed. Here are my top 5 Thriller Books for women to read.

Never Tell by Lisa Gardner

I never stop being amazed how one can live with secrets buried deep inside and have a peaceful mind. Probably, it has to do with individual psychology. This suspense novel is built on a breathtaking revelation, chapter by chapter. This is going to be one of the top summer books to gobble up!

A man is dead, shot three times in his home office. But his computer has been shot twelve times, and when the cops arrive, his pregnant wife is holding the gun.

D.D. Warren arrives on the scene and recognizes the woman – Evie Carter – from a case many years back. Evie’s father was killed in a shooting that was ruled an accident. But for D.D., two coincidental murders is too many.

Flora Dane sees the murder of Conrad Carter on the TV news and immediately knows his face. She remembers a night when she was still a victim – a hostage –and her captor knew this man. Overcome with guilt that she never tracked him down, Flora is now determined to learn the truth of Conrad’s murder.

But D.D. and Flora are about to discover that in this case the truth is a devilishly elusive thing. As layer by layer they peel away the half-truths and outright lies, they wonder: How many secrets can one family have?

Books for women to read in summer

The Boy by Tami Hoag

You will enjoy this summer book as it has a great character development that is revealed gradually, as each character is built out. I love to look ahead of the plot by guessing who is the key to the mystery reveal. This book made me guess several times!

When Detective Nick Fourcade enters the home of Genevieve Gauthier outside the sleepy town of Bayou Breaux, Louisiana, the bloody crime scene that awaits him is both the most brutal and the most confusing he’s ever seen. Genevieve’s seven-year-old son, KJ, has been murdered by an alleged intruder, yet Genevieve is alive and well, a witness inexplicably left behind to tell the tale.

There is no evidence of forced entry and no clue that points to a motive. Meanwhile, Nick’s wife, Detective Annie Broussard, sits in the emergency room with the grieving Genevieve. A mother herself, Annie understands the emotional devastation this woman is going through, but as a detective she’s troubled by a story that makes little sense. Who would murder a child and leave the only witness behind?

The spotlight falls heavily on the grieving mother who is both victim and accused. Could she have killed her own child to free herself from the burden of motherhood, or is the loss of her beloved son pushing her to the edge of insanity? Could she have something to do with the disappearance of Nora, or is the troubled teen the key to the murder? How far will Nick and Annie have to go to uncover the dark truth of the boy?

Sara’s Game: A Psychological Thriller by Ernie Lindsey

Seemingly simple and unattractive plot will suck you into the labyrinth of human mind. Playing games takes quite a different connotation, which makes author Ernie Lindsey a master of suspense.

Two years ago, Sara’s husband left for the gym one morning…and never came back.

His car was found. He wasn’t.

Unbelievably, the police report said, “No foul play suspected.” There were a few unreliable sightings over the following months, but little else.

Now, on the last day before summer break, her three children have gone missing from their schools, all at the same time.

And the note under her windshield wiper asks one agonizing question: Are you ready to play the game?
