Star Wars Rebels: Spark of Rebellion
One-hour Movie Premiere on Friday, October 3rd
(9:00 p.m. ET/PT) on Disney Channel
The fascination for the life of the Jedi knights and Imperial forces of the Star Wars has been ruling the minds and hearts of millions of fans. Guess what – today is the official opening of a new STAR WARS REBELS: SPARK OF REBELLION series that would lead its way into a historical continuous fight between the Jedi Knights and the Galactic Empire. Here’s a Star Wars timeline that would allow you quickly to have a refreshing look over all the factual data.
Last week, we were lucky few to pre-screen the series and interview the actors who were behind the voices of this upcoming fascinating Star Wars series!

Freddie Prinze Jr is the Voice of Kanana Jarrus.
Dave Filoni, Executive Producer of Star Wars Rebels: Spark of Rebellion
Freddie Prinze Jr is the voice behind of Kanan Jarrus, a survivor of the Emperor’s Jedi purge who is leading the pack of other Jedi warriors, and not only, called Ghost crew. Mind this: Kanan keeps his Jedi identity secret and almost “forgot” how to use his lightsaber. Keeping his identity deeply hidden even from himself, Kanan will find himself on the part of rediscovering himself one time more, just in time when a rebellion begins to form against the Empire. What will happen – it’s for us all to follow with this new release of the Star Wars Rebels.
During our sit-down interview we discovered a few interesting details how the movie was conceived and what actors were invited to lend their gifted voices to the characters of the beloved by millions Star Wars.
Q: Star Wars has such a huge legacy and popularity. How does it feel to be part of it?
FREDDIE PRINZE JR Amazing. I didn’t know it was Star Wars when auditioning. It was titled “Wolf Pack.” I went in, saw some character break-downs on the wall at Disney, thinking, these guys are either ripping off Star Wars or else. There was a girl auditioning for Sabine, and when she came out she said it was definitely Star Wars. I just went in and blantly asked them if I was reading for Star Wars…(they couldn’t confirm!)
Q: What was the process of creating the new episodes of Star Wars Rebels?
DAVE FILONI We were wrapping up the series Clone Wars and wanted to come with something new that could represent the spirit of the Star Wars and continue working with George Lucas and his creation – all that has been one of the most learning experiences I’ve ever had. We wanted to come up with something new that represented the era of Star Wars.
We worked with the Star Wars team and came up with the rebels story that weaved nicely with the spirit of the Star Wars.
During the conversation one interesting fact about Dave Filoni came up to the surface – he LOVES Wolves! He is so passionate about them that he uses it in his creative work as well. Studying wolf’s species and its survival strategies helped him to come up with some ideas for his characters in Star Wars.
Q: How did it come around to bring in to new episodes several female characters?
DAVE FILONI It was a necessity. Many directors right now have a choice to bring in female characters into the story. We made women the ones who had the Force, who could be tough on their own. I ask my wife’s opinion on many things how characters would act, react, what choices they may make. It is such a great way for me to bounce off ideas with my wife and check with reality how women would behave in different situations.
FREDDIE PRINZE JR It is a good example to show to girls at young age how strong and determined they could be. Don’t be fooled that a character may be dressed in a dress. Her spirit is tough and strong. It is more of a spirit and attitude more than anything else that we create a strong mental snapshot of our own personal experiences with characters.
DAVE FILONI We always think in terms how to make these female characters well-rounded, educated, thus making powerful decisions. We always care how our characters walk, talk, interact with other characters. It is that in these details lies the power of creating a mental image for each character to either associate with her or not.
The conversation with both of these men was a delight indeed. Sincere sharing about the process of creating this series, the process of casting different voices for their Star Wars Rebels characters – all that has created a truly intimate atmosphere to feel the soul and a very generous permission to take a glance at a very meticulous process of creating yet another gem within the Star Wars family of movies.
Another interesting fact is that all voices were recorded with all actors present at the same time. It is unprecedented! Usually, it is a lonely booth that harbors one actor at-a-time, and it all depends on that actor’s vigor and amazing ability to produce the right emotion, strength of voice and feeling when reading and recording the script.
This Star Wars Rebels series recording brought all characters together. It is very expensive for a studio to do it, and sometimes impossible to do it due to the talent’s different schedules. We need to applaud the creative and organizing staff of Star Wars – Dave Filoni at the top of the list – that they were able to pull this scenario together of recording all voices at once.

In Recording Studio: Steve Blum as Zeb; Tiya Sircar as Sabine; Vanessa Marshall as Hera;, Taylor Gray as Ezra; Freddie Prinze Jr as Kanana.
I was left with a sense of fulfillment that creative souls continue their march across this planet. Bringing their genuine feelings and attitudes into the movie-making process only makes it a more powerful place on Earth.
And if you’ve never seen Star Wars – this is your chance to start your own journey and experience the transformation inside with the release of this new series.
Reminder: Star Wars Rebels premiers on Friday, October 3, 9:00pm ET with 1-hour show on Disney Channel.
The Series premiers on Monday, October 13, 9:00pm ET on Disney XD.
Star Wars Rebels continues the epic tradition of the legendary Star Wars saga with all-new exciting, action- packed adventures. Set between the events of Star Wars Episodes III and IV, the story unfolds during a dark time when the evil Galactic Empire is tightening its grip of power on the galaxy.
Imperial forces have occupied a remote planet and are ruining the lives of its people. The motley but clever crew of the starship Ghost – cowboy Jedi Kanan, ace pilot Hera, street-smart teenager Ezra, the “muscle” Zeb, warrior firebrand Sabine, and cantankerous old astromech droid Chopper – is among a select few who are brave enough to stand against the Empire.
Together, they will face threatening new villains, encounter colorful adversaries, embark on thrilling adventures and become heroes with the power to ignite a rebellion.
