Do Something Fun This Coming Week
There is so much excitement generated around this year’s Solar Eclipse! It is easy to explain WHY.
First things first. What is a Solar Eclipse?
A solar eclipse is a type of eclipse that occurs when the Moon passes between the Sun and Earth, and when the Moon fully or partially blocks the Sun. – Wikipedia
- It will be a total solar eclipse which is very rare
- Called “Great American Eclipse,” it will be visible in the continental U.S. Usually, a full eclipse occurs over water in remote areas
- This full eclipse is the first to cross the continental U.S. from coast to coast in 99 years.
It will begin at 1:15 pm EST on the Oregon coast and end at 2:49 pm EST in McClellanville, SC.
Depending on location, darkness will last from a few seconds to almost three minutes.
They report that Nashville, TN, will be the largest city experiencing total darkness during this solar eclipse. The Visitor’s Bureau of the Nashville reports an influx of about 75,000 visitors thanks to this event. It will be crowded!
STEM Solar Eclipse Project
During the solar eclipse, it is a MUST to take a precaution to protect your eyes. DO NOT LOOK at the sun without specialty glasses! The brightness from the sun will burn the retina of an eye causing a permanent damage. We need our eyes beyond this solar eclipse, no matter how exciting it may be.
We have prepped up two exciting STEM projects for you and parents to do during this stellar event. Click on the image to download the instructions and see the illustrations.
Lion King has been one of many beloved characters for our children. Every new release of the Lion King sequel teaches perseverance in staying on the path which is of good heart, strong friendships, and deep respect.
This year, we will celebrate the Circle of Life with our new beloved characters: Simba, Mufasa, Timon, Pumbaa. An upcoming blu-ray DVD release will be loaded with bonus material like never before! Disney makes sure that every Signature Collection piece becomes more memorable and treasured. There are a lot of behind-the-scenes bonuses that tell us the story of its making. You will be introduced to the Story Room where co-directors Roger Allers and Rob Minkoff present footage of the five original story pitches. This is exciting!
Every Disney movie idea has to be pitched first. Then if it seems to be viable, it will take many turns and rounds and expansion to evolve into something doable. I have a treasured privilege to work with Disney and Pixar who take us behind the scenes and share ins-and-outs of story development, human prototypes (yes, there’s such thing!), computer animation, voice search for each character and much, much more. This Lion King blu-ray edition from the Walt Disney Signature Collection will have it in ABUNDANCE!

Who doesn’t love Lion King? I had so many memories with my sisters and brothers watching it all together . I din’t see the eclipse . How was your experience?
We all love Lion King! it looks beautiful! I bet it’s lovely experience
great concept. how was the eclipse? i got to watch it here in nyc despite not having glasses. People were readily sharing theirs in the street which was great.
Everyone has been talking about the eclipse on my Facebook. Sadly I live in Europe, so I did not get to see it. The one time the US has something cooler than Europe. Ah well. I just hope everyone protected their eyes.
The Lion King is such a cool movie. I remember it was the first ever movie that I went to see at the El Capitan Theater in Hollywood. I kind of surprised my parents had never taken me before because it was an amazing experience. I remember when I was happy to take my daughter there. Anyway, the Lion King is amazing and this is such a cool craft. Wish I had seen it earlier but my daughter and I did a very cool thing for the eclipse that we enjoyed.
Lion King is one of my favourites too from the childhood days. It’s good to watch solar eclipse using special glasses. That sounds a great experience!
There’s been so much hype about the solar eclipse. Im not sure if it will be seen from Singapore, but i’ll be sure to look out for photos of this phenomenon!
Milton,
This magical event has been spectacular today!
I’ve been following it on TV live, online, and live from my home.
We used projects for kids to experience the solar eclipse via STEM DIY’s, and they were awesome as well.
We also had special solar glasses to look at the sun and moon dancing in the skies.
All was a breathless experience. Lots of excitement and it lived up to our expectations and more.
There will be more pictures to come online, I am sure. And I am looking forward them.
Just saw the eclipse…Well a partial one. I was lucky enough to have those special glasses. I did peek at the sun one time and boy I can see why they warn about it. It was ultra bright. I think I’m one of the only people who hasn’t seen the Lion King….Your post is inspiring me to watch it now. Thx.
Kimberly,
We have been watching the solar eclipse today, on TV and outside with special glasses on.
It’s been fascinating!
We have gathered together kids and families from several neighbor houses and had fun using our carton boxes projects and paper projects and just being really fascinated by the event.
What an magical event this year indeed!
I am such a Disney geek. Lion King is one of our families all time favorites.
I like the bonus features mentioned. Sounds exciting. Good review.
Fantastic art work! I love the Lion King, it’s score and of course it’s brilliant message.
We will only have a partial elipse in the Baton Rouge, LA area. They predict up to 75%.
I love love love the Lion King. I wish that one or more of my grandkids could be with me. This would be such a fun STEM project to do with them.
Unfortunately, we won’t be able to witness the eclipse in our place. But of course, The Lion King is always a favorite in our country. thank you for sharing a good review.
Lion King is one of our family favorites and we still watch it today 😀 Can’t wait for the eclipse 🙂 fun family project 😀
I love Lion King and has been watching it since a toddler. I still love it today! Love the art and the photographs. I cannot wait for the eclipse and I might try the home eclipse projection and might be fun with the little ones too!
