What a great opportunity to visit the DreamWorks Animation Studios, meet the directors, producers and creative talent for the amazing children’s animation movie series TIP & OH HOME ADVENTURES. This is a funny, filled with music and teaching points short series available via Netflix. If you haven’t seen any of that adventuresome animation – at least check it out of curiosity. The voice behind TIP, a girl with a very unique point of view on everything in life, is Rachel Crow. Yes, that same Rachel Crow who first appeared in X Factor and conquered the world with her brilliant voice at the age of 13! I remember her performances so vividly. And now, I had to meet her in person!
Before animation, there came multiple versions of pictures story boards. First, each mini series was imagined on paper. Textures, colors, shapes were picked and re-imagined from a gazillion of objects from a real human world. The imagination room at DreamWorks was full of sketches, paintings, fabrics, objects of many kinds. The illustrators were sharing with us how the colors, the backgrounds and the characters themselves were created and put together into the settings that we are enjoying in a movie setting. Hundreds of hours were invested into the imagineering process before TIP and OH and all the rest of the characters took stage in the animation.

Here’s the Animation Itself
The TIP & OH mini series is more than just simple solution for spending some extra time in front of the TV. It is mini series that has a ton of creative solutions to many life’s situations. All animated from a funny and very witty perspective. The voice behind TIP is a talented Rachel Crow, who sat down with us and took us through a very intense creative process of creating a character with voice variations and her own song performance. And that girl’s voice is mesmerizing!
Watch this sample of some songs performed by Rachel Crow (TIP) and Mark Whitten (OH).
We had a wonderful chance to meet and speak about TIP & OH creative process with Ana Ortiz (Lucy, Tip’s Mom) and Ron Funches (Sharzod), and the directors Todd Garfield and Ryan Crego. The experience of being within a speaking distance from the people who bring to life characters who become popular with our children is magical.
For Ana Ortiz, voicing TIP’s mother Lucy in this animated series was the first-time experience working with the animation material. She was so delighted to try her skill in it that she was scared at the same time. Her children are growing looking up to many heroes on TV and in the movies. She was trying her best to find a voice that could affect in a positive way the watching audience. Ana shared with us that once she mastered her composure in front of the mike, the rest was easy – all thanks to the amazing directors and producers of the series who were guiding her through every episode of TIP & OH.
At the end of the day, we had an amazing practical lesson of how to draw OH. Yes, this little guy has become an inspiration for me personally. The more I learned about him and how he was masterminded and what a powerful spirit was put into his character – OH became a total package to love and admire!
Oh, and we had a chance to dance and pose in front of the green screen, too!
Here’s a full list of the talent and creators of the TIP & OH mini series.
When Oh moves in with Tip, mom Lucy and cat Pig, he discovers that he’s truly found his “home” – and everyone in your home is sure to love this all-new coming-of-age buddy comedy.
