Flue season. Colds season. Allergies season. There are so many seasons we are going through every year. And one thing in common among all of them is that we must be prepared for anything coming at us! Whole food, exercise and supplements could become our true friends in this preparation.
Can Vitamin C prevent colds? Can Zinc fight flu? All details about these and other supplements and their relationships with colds and flu as per clinical studies.
Reasons Behind the Supplements
There are two simple reasons behind the “WHY” for supplements.
The first reason is because supplements provide an effective and easy way for the multitude of nutrients and vitamins to enter our system.
The second reason is because we do not know how to get all the right “stuff” like vitamins, minerals, and other micronutrients into our bodies.
And yes, certain vitamins play their important role during flu season as well.
From the multitude of food supplements, we do want to choose those that have the most benefits. By that I mean that the goodness of the supplement is not wasted, rather is being absorbed by our bodies.
With new technologies, it is possible today to deliver vitamins and minerals to our bodies avoiding a harsh acidic environment of the stomach. How do they do it? Simple to us – via a sublingual tablet which melts in your mouth and is being absorbed into the blood stream.
Superior Source boasts of the MicroLingual® technology and the variety of vitamins for the entire family for the colds and flu season. The winter months could be productive when we take care of our bodies and support them with the vitamins they need to fight off bugs and respiratory infections. Check out a rich variety of these MicroLingual vitamins HERE.
Why Women Need Vitamin C
Vitamin C stimulates the production of white blood cells that support out immune system. Being a powerful antioxidant, vitamin C gives a helping hand to white blood cells against oxidative stress, i.e., from free radicals.
Vitamin C is very important for women in menopause. Decline of estrogen and onset of menopause can easily lead to many health conditions, like osteoporosis, for example.
That is why change in nutrition and supplements call for attention in every woman in peri-menopause and menopause.
Vitamin C stimulates the cells to build bones and improve Calcium absorption. This is exactly what a woman needs to avoid osteoporosis!
In addition, Vitamin C enhances the effect of Vitamin D it has on the bone metabolism.
Just taking a look at the two vitamins you clearly see that vitamins and minerals work in synergy amplifying each other’s functions and roles in the body. Knowing these facts can dramatically change a woman’s life, especially when when she enters menopause.
Sublingual Vitamin C is an excellent source for getting the maximum benefits from a supplement.

Why Do Women Need Vitamin D
Vitamin D is one of the essential vitamins that we do have to have in order for our bodies to function properly. Many studies have shown that one of the reasons why people get upper respiratory infections is due to the low Vitamin D levels. We get Vitamin D through our skin exposure to the sun and with food. You can read more about causes of Vitamin D deficiencies here.
When we do not have sufficient amounts of this vitamin, supplements could help. Some foods like cereals and milk could be fortified with Vitamin D. Some foods like salmon, shrimp, sardines, mackerel, cod-liver oil, eggs, mushrooms and cheese have natural occurrence of Vitamin D.
If you don’t get enough Vitamin-D-rich foods and sunshine daily, you may want to talk to your doctor and supplement it. Sublingual Superior Source Vitamin D3 could be one of sources.
Vitamin D Necessity for Women in Menopause
During a menopause, a woman’s body, organ and adrenal functions change dramatically. Knowing what to expect helps tremendously to adjust to a new living in a “new” body. One of the vitamin deficiencies that happen during menopause is the shortage of Vitamin D.
Read this detailed post on the First Signs of Menopause.
Statistics claim that nearly two-thirds of women in menopause are deficient in Vitamin D. As the female hormone estrogen drastically declines, which causes the menopause to take over, the lower estrogen leads to symptoms of vitamin D deficiency.
Women in menopause should take daily supplementation of Vitamin D, as it may help with fewer hot flashes and protect against depletion of serotonin. One of the serious symptoms of lack of Vitamin D is muscle and joint pain. In addition, vitamin D adds to an optimal addition of vitamins during flu season.

Vitamin K Benefits for Women
Without doubt, vitamin K takes one of the leading roles in building strong bones, preventing heart disease, restoring oral health, reducing infections – just some of the important functions taking place in our bodies.
You can get Vitamin K through eating whole foods or via supplementation. A quick way of the Vitamin K into our blood stream is through sublingual vitamins like Superior Source offers.
Make sure that when you opt for Vitamin K supplementation, you don’t get a synthetic one!
Head over to this post to read about Vitamin K Benefits.
What is Vitamin B Good For
Vitamin B is one of the popular to mention in literature and in life. All due to its complexity and multi-functionality. Vitamin B is not just one vitamin, per se. It is an extended family of vitamins that make our body hum and work properly. Each Vitamin B has its complex structure to address certain issues inside the body. Take a look at the food sources of different Vitamin B constituents so to say.
Vitamin B12 is critical in making our red blood cells. You can only imagine what havoc it could be without these cells in our body!
Without sufficient amount of Vitamin B6, our bodies could experience more inflammatory conditions which could be a ground base for many diseases, including cancer, heart disease, obesity, high blood pressure.
We do know how critical Folic Acid is to the development of babies and for a pregnant woman’s health.

Importance of Biotin for Human Body
Biotin helps to maintain healthy blood sugar levels, promotes nail and hair strength and supports cell growth, metabolism of fats and amino acids and the production of fatty acids. Biotin is essential in the healthy functioning of the “Krebs Cycle” in which energy is released from foods and transferred to the body for use.

Benefits of 5-HTP Supplementation
We all are familiar with Serotonin, a chemical naturally occurring in our body that has many implications how our systems functions. Sleep, memory, social behavior, mood, appetite and digestion – all have their share to be affected by the balanced levels of serotonin in the blood stream. When serotonin balances are misplaced, the entire body malfunction happens in no time and could lead to some painful and debilitating conditions.
Poor diet, hormonal fluctuation, and lack of sunshine may very well be the culprits for low serotonin levels in a human body.
Check with your medical professional when reaching out for supplements! Talk about supplementation with your doctor; learn about each interested supplement option by yourself, then make a decision what route to follow. It is especially important when we are trying to boost our well-being during the natural aging process.
Serotonin is also known as 5-hydroxytryptamine or 5-HT chemical in our body. Check out 5-HTP Mood Elevator Superior Source supplement in sublingual form. That means that the supplement will melt in your mouth and start its absorption into the blood stream right away.
Whatever your health needs are for your well-being, research them first, talk to your medical professional and make your decision based on what is right for your well-being!

Great info! Post my Gall Stone removal surgery, doctor gave some multi-vitamin supplements that I take throughout the year 🙂 Biotin is so good for hair and nails!
Yep! These are all on my to take list for flu season!
You just reminded me that it’s time to stock up, thanks!
I take various vitamins throughout the year for different reasons. I am an avid runner so summer time is hard on my legs and as I live in a cold climate vitamins for colder seasons are a must as well
I take most of these vitamins daily except the K2. I’ve never heard of it to be honest! I will add it to the list.
I’m taking vitamin C and D now. But I know I need try those vitamins, too.
That’s interesting. I didn’t know that vitamine C played a bigger role during menopauze
Thank you Laura for sharing this. What do you think if I take once a week? coz sometime I forget to take these vitamin.
Hello! It’s a really useful article for those who care about their health. I keep healthy levels of vitamin C and D, Zinc, along with daily doses of organic elderberry with ginger and turmeric for inflammation. Nature has a lot of good stuff to help us out. Getting enough sleep, good stress management, and physical activity goes a long way in prevention.
I have used these sublingual tablets previously. I do like Superior Source vitamins. They are high quality and convenient to use.
Same here, Maryann.
I like the bioavailability of these supplements.
I have always taken multi vitamins. We all really need them. I have some of these and they are great!
I actually take notes of these things. I have so many people in my family who needs to be careful with flu season.
Kathy,
Knowing the difference and learning about vitamins and their interdependence is the key to an optimal supplementation.
I need these
Vicki,
Vitamins could be an essential part of the supplementation.
Knowing which vitamins to take each season and during different states of our health is the key.
A medical professional can help you to identify the vitamins you need. Plus, do your own research and self-education.
I take supplements on a daily basis. It’s crazy the difference they make in your overall health, especially in the long run.
Kita,
Quality supplements do make a difference in our well-being.
We do need to self-educate about the different vitamins and supplements out there and know the difference.
Plus, we do need to talk to the medical professionals who could be a great support when we need to choose seasonal and year-round supplements. It is especially important for those who take any medication, as supplements can interfere with its action and even cause adverse reaction.
I know that we all need more vitamin C during the winter season, but I didn’t know why. Thanks for these details!
Catalina,
Great to hear from you.
Yes, more severe seasons that bring more infection into our lives call for a more robust immune response.
However, the key is to feed your body right during the entire year and get the supplementation, if needed, before a flu season strikes.
I need to add to help my thyroid. That is what I am looking at…
Elicia,
In your case, do talk to the medical professional first before adding any supplements to your daily regimen.
Some vitamins can affect you adversely when taken with the medication!
Please take good care.
Good to know that I’m taking all of the right vitamins! Only one I don’t take is Vitamin C.
Heather,
Vitamin C is one of the best to add to the daily regimen. It is water-soluble, and it does need some other vitamins, like vitamin D, to be present to get the efficiency and benefits it can bring to the well-being.
I so agree with Vitamin D. I have been taking it for awhile and I know it helps especially in the winter.
Shelley,
So great to hear from you and how Vitamin D works out for your body.
It really is crucial for our well-being.
Great post about vitamins! It’s always good to take a multi. 🙂
Heidi,
Vitamins, like any supplement we would like to take in, need to be understood.
For example, my hubby has been taking a multivitamin and developed some side-effects just because of it. Stopping its intake, placed all things into their normalcy.
Vitamins can bring a lot of support to our immune system. We just need to become responsible users.
The sour cherry vitamin c sounds like a great way to get my boys to take their vitamins. I take a lot of these vitamins to stay healthy.
Tara,
Right now, Vitamin C is one of my vaforites. I add Vitamin D alongside with it. But if you get enough sunshine, no need to supplement it.
Superior Source is such a great brand. I’ve been using their vitamins for a long time, and I’ve noticed a real difference. I think it’s their delivery system that really makes them special.
Claudia,
Totally agree with you. Superior Source delivery system is a unique one. It gets the right ingredients delivered into the blood stream within seconds.
great post! vitamins are a must to me as well, very useful. your post definitely gives a great inside look
Lyosha,
Having a bit of knowledge about different vitamins and how they’re manufactured does help.
I take several of these, although it looks like I need to add a few to my list.
Krysten,
There’s a ton of amazing vitamins in the world, with the modern delivery technologies.
Knowing your body well and the situations you’re living in help you to determine what to choose from a vitamin world.
Taking them all at once for the rest of life won’t help.
Take breaks from your regularly-taken vitamins, too.
This definitely seems like a super useful brand to have around the house! Thanks so much for sharing this information.
Emily,
This is one of the brands with quality ingredients and instant delivery of the vitamins into the blood stream.
We should take care of our health more than ever before and these vitamins can really help.
True. It is also true to learn more about the options that are being pitched at us.
Vitamins really are so important during all of life but you listed some great ones for this time of year!
Jody,
Of course there are more vitamins that are surely appropriate to take during the flu season and cold months.
All depends on our state of well-being and instant needs.
That is why educating ourselves about the options out there and how they can be applied to our own healthy living are a must-do.
Thanks for sharing about the importance of each supplement. It’s great to be reminded on staying healthy. I’m gonna share this with my family.
I have been stocking up on Vitamin C with Zinc for the family especially my husband who is a front liner. It think it’s very important to have this.
Kathy,
The key to any supplementation is that… it is just additional support to boost the powerful immune system.
The main power comes from consuming wholefoods and foods rich in fiber and antioxidants.
So informative! Thanks for mentioning what their functions are.
Sure, Nikki,
Learning about the topics that can drastically affect our well-being is a must-do for us.
Great supplements. I love using B-12!
Kiwi,
Have you tried the sublingual supplements that melt under the tongue?
These vitamins are so much smaller, as the actives get into the blood stream in no time, bypassing the digestive system.
I haven’t tried this brand before but it seems really helpful!! Thanks for sharing these with us!
The key of this post is to draw attention to the sublingual supplements that allow the active ingredients to get into the blood stream in no time.
The absorption happens through saliva in our mouth cavity.
Vitamins are such an important part of our diet. We often neglect it
This is very informative and interesting to know more about…Thanks for sharing such valuable informations..will definitely keep this in mind and will try these during winter season….Great work…
Not everyone needs supplements, but adding some of them into our life here and there could support our body maintenance and of its systems.
I’m always vigilant about taking vitamins. I’ll definitely have to check out this line!
HilLesha,
This is one of my favorite options to take sublingual vitamins that get into the blood stream in no time, bypassing the digestive system.
Vitamins are a must have for maintaining a healthy immune system. I know I for sure need to add some more Vitamin K to my life.
Jasmine,
Vitamin K is one of the key vitamins. It really boosts the well-being of our skin, hair, internal organs.
With Covid still lurking, we need to fight the other diseases that comes. Doing what we can to do fight should be priority.
Jon,
Supporting our immune response can have a positive boosting properties.
The vitamins is super helpful. I am sure this one beneficial during the flu season.
Papa Jack,
It is important to boost our immune system well before the flu season. If we begin all the good supplementation during the flu season and when we get sick, the supplements may smooth our sailing through hard times.
I try to get as many vitamins as I can through foods but we still need something extra at times 🙂
Renata,
I agree, plant diet is one of the powerful ones. But some vitamins and minerals could be supplemented as well.
I’ve never heard of the brand to be honest but I need a good vitamin brand that I can rely on. I will check where I can find Superior Source.
Chad,
Superior Source is on Amazon. Their products is of high quality. As the delivery mechanism is sublingual, we need smaller amounts of vitamins for consumption.
Really great and informative post for all us women! I take B12, D3 or just sometime my multivitamin and Serotonin is so important!
Hannah,
We all have our individual needs when it comes to vitamins. I rotate vitamin intake as needed.
Awesome! We normally take supplements as well, it is needed for our bodies
Lyosha,
I like to rotate my supplements and discover new ways to maintain my body’s vibrance.
I always take my vitamins from food. The on;y one that I can’t because my body doesn’t assimilate it from food is Vitamin D. I grew up taking supplements of Vitamin D.
Joanna,
Food is our medicine. So great that your wholefoods are the main source for your well-being.
It is always better to get our vitamins through healthy food, but most women can’t eat enough of those foods to get the necessary vitamins, which is what makes these options great. I actually take most of what you suggest above, one in a regular multi and one in a women’s matabolism supplement.
Marie,
Great to hear what you are doing for your well-being.
I rotate my supplementation based on my needs, season, reasons.
I usually take Zinc during cold and flu season and it always seems to help!
Krysten,
Zinc helps with creating more barriers for pathogens to get into our body. It is great you found something to rely on.
Such an amazing list! There are a few that I need to try!
Julia,
All depends on your needs behind supplementation.
Sublingual vitamins get into your blood stream bypassing the digestive system where their potency is reduced.
They look like they would be great to try.
I’m looking for a better Vit C.
January 16, 2019 at 3:59 pm
I would be very interested in trying all of them but especially the:
Biotin: my dermatologist told me to take that daily for my hair which is thinning a little bit from my age.
B vitamins- especially for energy because coffee gives me migraines but B vitamins do not.
and
I haven’t tried 5-HTP but have really wanted to, to see if it helps with depression and anxiety and for my insomnia and appetite.
Yvonne,
I was raised with kefir and home-fermented foods like sauer kraut, pickles, cottage cheese, kvas and much more.
Cooking my family meals with fermented foods is easy!
I make a ton of different soups using them. Plus add to fresh salads and as a side to main dishes.
Little bit here and there does add up! Our immune system benefits. We get less sick and have a much more potent way to fight the pathogens from the outside.
I’d like to see how Tangy the Vitamin C is.
I”m ready to try the Vitamin D
After learning about Superior Source Vitamins, I am convinced that my entire family could benefit from vitamins during the colds and flu season.
These sound great! I would love to try the Vitamin C and Vitamin D3. I take these regularly, but with a different brand.
B vitamins are so important for your brain as you get older.
We are getting up there in age and the symptoms: Sleep, memory, social behavior, mood, appetite and digestion are all of my problems. I never heard of 5-HTP but would consider taking it.
Darlene,
Supplements can truly support our immune system. We just need to take responsibility to learn about vitamins and what they do in the body.
I got sick a few weeks ago and I took a lot of vitamin C.
I’d love to check these out, particularly the Vitamin D! And I love the Microlingual aspect!
I am so bad about taking pills, I think these are something I could take easily and would love to try them.
I’ve started taking Turmeric!
I would like to try the Biotin for my hair thinning.
Needs something to significantly raise my energy level.
i am interested in the B12 and the D3.
What a great collection of vitamins and minerals. I have been wanting to incorporate B-12 into my supplement plan
I love this brand, I like the products that they have and the variety of vitamins, I love most is that they don’t
add chemicals or other junk in their products.
@tisonlyme143
Yep, I’m rushing to get more vitamins myself I think they help me in a lot of ways. Flu season is already so bad this year.
I like how there are different flavors of Vitamin C. I also like how they melt! I’d love to try those!

(Superior Source Vitamins For the Entire Family During the Winter Flu Season) This is so true during cold and flue season. I take a my vitamins every other day to stay well for my family.
I love they have a whole lite of products to meet all my vitamin and mineral needs
This is the only brand of Vitamin C that my son will take!
I’m not quite sure I’ve heard of this brand, but they seem to have a great variety of vitamins, and I’m really intrigued by the “sour cherry” version of the C vitamin. Would be willing to give them a try!
I haven’t tried their products, but I definitely want these. I really want to try the Sour Cherry Melts.
I would like to try this brand. I have read quite a few posts about this company.
I am a regular user of vitamins and supplements and credit them for my improved immune function. Looking at the list above, I realize I need to look into taking vitamins K and D3.
I actually prefer gummies over any other types of vitamins.
Definitely on my to do this year, is to get all of my family members to take more vitamins, especially the little ones!
I just love that you do not have t swallow. These would be great for my daughter who has trouble getting down pills.
Chris,
It is a great way to have all of our vitamins!
My kids have a huge problem with swallowing the pills. These have changed it.
I have not tried this brand before but it does sound like a brand I would love to check out
I think it is smart to take extra vitamins especially during the cold and flu season. A little extra protection!
Thanks – I learned something about a few of these I already take! I think B vitamins are especially important as we get older.
These are all super important vitamins. I am sure to take biotin year-round, and could totally use some extra vitamin c and b12 right now. My husband also swears by taking vitamin d everyday. Superior Source looks like a great company too.
I take Cinnamon pills to lower my glucose numbers
Because my diet is not what it should be, I know I need supplements. But I would like better supplements that address my health issues and deficiencies. Sleep and mood are important to me at my age of peri-menopause.
I’m trying to be better about taking vitamins.
I take probiotics, Iron & B12 year round.
I take several different vitamins. I would especially like to try their vitamin b12.
Vitamins are amazing! I take b-12 daily.
I want to try these vitamins out
I am so curious about the Sour Cherry Melts. I would like to try these the most.
