Almost everyone knows that omega-3’s are incredible. You can’t open newspaper, or turn on a television without hearing about the powerful health benefits attached to regular omega-3 intake.
I have been a fan of Omega-3 DHA for at least 7 years. I consume it daily and give my toddler the DHA supplement every single day! Yes, we consume it as a family. And what not to like in this amazing, nature-given supplement?
Optimal omega-3 intake is attached to the promotion of cardiovascular, cognitive function, joint health, memory capabilities, eye health, boosts in energy levels and the list goes on.
While fish such as halibut, mackerel, sturgeon and tuna are all excellent sources of omega-3’s, the medical community has urged us to reduce our consumption of fish because of the pollutants involved with our marine communities.
Many people turn to nature-based omega-3 intake like flax seeds, algae and avocado’s. While these are also impactful in providing omega-3’s to our bodies, the amount we would need to consume on a daily basis to guarantee the optimal health benefits of high omega-3 intake – would be astronomical.
Algae for breakfast, lunch and dinner – well, it’s not exactly a dreamy solution! Not only would eating avocado’s daily be hard on your pocket book – but your waistline wouldn’t be doing so well either. However, it should be stated that any omega-3 intake, is certainly better than none, and these are still viable options for vegans and vegetarians.
The easiest way to ensure you are receiving optimal omega-3 intake (and in turn, the optimal health benefits associated with omega-3’s), is through daily supplementation. Krill Oil happens to be one of the most superior omega-3 supplements available on the market today. Why? Check these facts out.
Astaxanthin
Krill Oil contains a very powerful antioxidant called astaxanthin. This is something you won’t find in leading fish oil brands. Astaxanthin is considered a powerhouse in the family of antioxidants. It works to promote cellular health (more than important considering our bodies are made up of literally trillions of cells) and reduce inflammation within the body.
Inflammation is behind many serious health conditions such as heart disease and joint-related conditions like Arthritis. Because of astaxanthin, Krill Oil has 54X the antioxidant power than any fish oil product available.
Phospholipids
Krill Oil is stored in phospholipid form. Phospholipids are fats naturally found in the human body, which makes the essential fatty acids easier for our body to break down and digest. Phospholipids guarantee faster absorption that’s easier on the body. Check out different size bottles of krill oil supplements HERE and HERE.
Phospholipids also mean that you won’t have to suffer through any of the uncomfortable (and embarrassing) ‘fish burps’ that come along with so many fish oil brands.
Contaminants – Or Lack Thereof!
While there are literally thousands of fish oil supplements available on the market today – most of them are manufactured using marine life that is stock full of contaminants such as PCB’s, mercury and other toxins due to our over polluted water system. It is because of these contaminants, that health care practitioners have advised us to reduce our fish intake to three portions a week.
When we use a fish oil supplement, while it may be providing omega-3 health benefits, it is also giving us a daily dose of toxic pollutants, which will certainly have negative effects on our health in the long term.
Krill are tiny crustaceans found deep within the oceanic community globally. Because they are not predatory marine life, they are virtually free of the dangerous contaminants found in so many fish. With Krill Oil – you get the health benefits worry free!
Sustainability
Krill are actually one of the largest biomasses on earth. Krill Oil harvesting is also strictly regulated, which means that for the small amount of Krill harvested for food and supplementation purposes, millions more are replacing them every year. You can enjoy the optimal health benefits associated with a superior omega-3 supplement, without any concerns regarding environmental sustainability.
As always, speak with your doctor whenever you are introducing a new supplement, medication, dietary change or exercise regime into your life. Your doctor will know the needs surrounding your health, and it’s always important to have them “in the know.”
The benefits associated with choosing a superior omega-3 supplement like Krill Oil, are extensive. And when it comes to your health, superior really is the only option.

I supplement omega 3, mostly from fish I and plants.. I have heard of krill oil, very cool, thanks for sharing.
My mom has been taking Omega 3 supplements for a while. Thanks for sharing the important benefits of usage of it.
I know all about the health benefits of omega 3s, but I had no idea that krill oil was a good source of it. I would love to add some of this oil to my routine.
Omega 3 really has a lot of benefits. I just started a year ago taking it and the results or output in me is so so nice. From then on, I regularly take it.
You are right I hear so about about Omega 3 via informercials. I learned the most from the Dr. Oz show.
I do need to talk to my doctor because I may need to take some.
Krill oil has been the best kind of omega 3 that I’ve used. It’s like I can feel the difference when I’m taking it as opposed to any other fish oil.
I really appreciate the information in this post, it’s going to help me decide which supplements to keep taking when it comes to omega 3. I initially thought there were very few differences. I didn’t think that it would affect our health this much.
I don’t take any fish oil supplements and it would be nice to know which ones are good and which ones won’t help your health at all. I didn’t realize that some companies use contaminated water from the ocean.
Omega-3 is an important supplement for skin and hair. I use it with oil for my skin and hair.
I take fish oil every day…Well I actually take krill oil. I believe the health benefits are so important, and since I am breastfeeding I want to pass down the nutrients to my baby. I love how krill oil pills are smaller and like you said, no fishy after taste!
I know that taking a good omega 3 supplement is important. This krill oil seems like a good choice and the benefits are great.
I’ve heard a lot of good things about using krill oil as a source of Omega 3! I will definitely check with my doctor to see if I should add it!
My nutritionist told me about the benefits of omega 3. I should check Krill oil and see how it can be a source of omega 3.
Great information. You got me thinking. I love taking my Omega-3. I’ll have to research Krill oil a bit more.
I eat a lot of salmon for the health benefits, including Omega-3, but I’ve never heard of people taking krill oil before.
Hands up I do not know as much about supplements as I should considering I know I am low in some of them and have to take those, I shall have to look into omega-3 more, it sounds like something I could really do with adding into my intake.
I need to start taking this! I keep hearing about the benefits, so I really should pick some up.
I started taking Omega-3 years ago and have recently started to research Krill oil. This is great information and you answered some of the questions I was having. Thanks!
Krill, it remind me of Finding Nemo, hehehe!! Omega-3 is one of the few supplements I take.
Thanks so much for sharing this product and information with all of us. I’ve recently started taking this because I’m going through menopause and I have some memory loss from it. Not a lot but enough to be a concern; because my estrogen level is low. This is suppose to help with my memory. I remembered how to get back to your site so it must be working :). Of course I forget (and will always forget) how to do the things I don’t want to *ahem*.
I agree totally that Omega-3 is an important supplement to add to your daily regime. I am allergic to shell fish. I have tried taking fish oil supplements and ended up itching for days!! I did take a look at Krill Oil but as I read further into it–I personally am afraid to attempt it. If you are not allergic to shell fish–then by all means try Krill Oil-it can only help you and not hurt the underwater biosphere!
