Developmental toys and tools are so essential to nurturing growing minds and curiosity of our children! Allowing them to explore the world utilizing all sensory skills, thus developing stronger neuron connections and lighting up their imagination. And imagination can lead to bigger and better things, as our little ones graduate from one phase of their development into another.
The more sensory skills are involved in the play, the more opportunities to create memories and feelings of playing with a toy. The richness of memories formed in childhood serves a good prerequisite for protecting our brain from dementia and Alzheimer’s in years ahead.
The Design & Drill construction set from Educational Insights offers endless possibilities to create many unique designs that respond to voice and music. In the process a child learns how to use a screw driver while creating different patterns on the board. The fun and excitement in the final product are unavoidable!
The Construction Kit Comes with Board, Pegs, & A Drill Gun!
All you need to add is batteries.
The Drilling Process Is Quite An Exciting Thing On Its Own!
The set comes with a booklet featuring samples of what a potential design could be. However, don’t force a child to “drill” the designs provided in the booklet! Allow her or him to create their own, thus lighting their own talent for creation and imagination.
It’s Quite a Fun Designing With the Sun Down
The most excitement comes when children try this set in the evening, when the sun fell behind the horizon, and the dark shadows come out to rule the world. We had four kids in the party. It was quite a phenomenal evening for allowing each one of them to design their own lights panel and try it a streaming music from iPhone. What really was awesome is their reaction and joy to see each other’s final product and try it out in action.
During the construction phase, the lights respond to a child’s voice – they start flickering. That was the first a-ha moment that this final product would be something special and encouraged children to think of their own ways to deliver this uniqueness on the black “mother board.”
Fun For a Wide Range of Ages
Design & Drill has an affinity with a wide range of young builders. We had kids 7 to 9 years-old in the party. But the box suggests the use starting as early as 3-years-old.
Each age would focus on different benefits and find their own exciting moments of the game. The younger crowd would be fascinated by the colors, and shapes, and still learning to coordinate their fine motor skills.
The older kids would focus on the project overall: planning, designing, putting imagination to work, allowing changes during the work process – all the higher level skills that they are acquiring in their age group.
This construction set is a fabulous find that could be given as a birthday gift or allocated towards the Holiday Gift Guide. All children receiving this gift would benefit from receiving a toy that they can grow with!

This looks like a great gift for young children. It would also be a great addition to the construction center in an Early Childhood classroom. I am going to save it so I can show my teachers.
How awesome are these toys. I sure wish I had some like this when I was growing up!

I love how much like the old light bright this looks. It’s really cool all of the developmental toys that they are creating for kids now. I wish they had things like this when I was growing up. So many different learning opportunities that all look fun.
I like how it’s a little construction game for them that’s cute. It really allows them to use their heads as well as their hands and come up with something creative. I think the fact that it lights up just adds to the fun factor.
My son has this and LOVES it. His OT actually recommended it for him to help woth fine motor skills.
Megan,
I am so happy to hear that this set really is helping with OT for your baby! We tried it with our neighbor, and he is really loving it, too.
That does look like something any kid would love to play with. My son is 9 and he’d love it still.
Rosey,
It is so cool, I was excited to try out my skills in drilling while creating a design!
It is very addictive!
This reminds me of our light boxes we used to play with as a kid, with the pegs. I would have loved this as a kid and also kind of hope my goddaughters get this so i can play with it to 🙂
Sounds great! It’s important to give kids toys that are fine but also help the kids’ development. These ones seem like a good choice!
I can think of a bunch of kids who would love something like this! I’ll have to remember it as a gift idea the next time a birthday roles around.
I must admit that although I’m already 16 yearsold, this construction kit did fascinate me! Kids these days are surrounded by so many cool stuffs I sometimes wish I was much younger :(( Anyway, hopefully, as time flies more and more products like this will be available, so that children can develop fully even at a young age!
The cutest about this toy is , it can be played by both girls and boys.
Who knows they will be the future engineers!
I am all about providing my kiddos with educational and developmental toys. The Design & Drill construction set from BrightWorks looks like something my children would love!
The development of children starts at the early stage of life. It is indeed a clever way of incorporating learning into different toys. The children are enjoying and at the same time developing their skills.
This looks like so much fun! My daughter enjoys toys that light up so she’d be all over this.
Oh my gosh how fun! I remember light-up boards when I was a child, and they still look so fun and special now. These beautiful toys are perfect for birthdays, Christmas, and just because!
These toys are the neatest thing. I sure wish I had some like this when I was growing up!
