My New Luxury Car – KIA

And How it Challenged Me to a Weekend Adventure

I know, I know. Luxury? KIA? In the same sentence? Hang in with me here, because it was the start of an amazing week. A great Weekend Adventure.

You see, before I got my KIA for a week, I had never been in one. Before I moved to Florida from the Rockies, Burt, my neighbor down the road had an old one. He seemed to always be tinkering with it to add some new gadget under the hood to make it go further on a gallon of gas. Burt was one of those crazy-geniuses everyone knows who was always talking to himself and muttering stuff, until you listened and he said something amazing.

Thus my only prior experience with a KIA was an open hood with a muttering guy under it stretching gas mileage with a car that had a name almost like my son Kai’s.

So, before a beautiful one got delivered to my door, I just knew KIA as a reliable, inexpensive car. When I heard they were bringing a KIA over for me to drive for a week, I guess I really didn’t have any expectations. I live in one of those South Florida neighborhoods where the Mercedes’ and Lexus’ seem to sprout here like metallic weeds on wheels.

Besides, I was busy that day. You know the kind of busy where you’re too busy to pay attention to the buzzer you set to remind yourself of something, and now it’s buzzing and you can’t remember why you set it – you know, that kind of a “I’m a Mom Who Blogs” busy? Ever have that kind of day?

Anyway, all of a sudden my doorbell rang, and the buzzer in the kitchen was going off, I was mid-sentence writing something about Ronald MacDonald House, and rushed to the door trying to not lose my thought, and there stood this cute guy dangling papers in front of me, “Your car is here.”
