Help Monarch Butterflies this Spring
Monarch Butterflies (Danaus plexippus) are an amazing species! I am using an exclamation mark because my awe and a sense of emotional magic that these tiny creatures deliver to us, humans, are unprecedented.
A butterfly which crosses millions of miles returning to her initial start-up point of travel 200% renewed in body and wings and all. This is not a small thing to anybody!
Yet the decline of the butterflies, especially of the MONARCH SPECIES has been undeniably drastic in the past years. This all has been happening to two major reasons:
#1 Loss of Habitat, and
# Poisonous Chemicals Used on Crops
Once this species of animals is gone – there’s no REVERSE. There will be a HUGE change comparable only to the BIG BANG that happened millions years ago.
FYI: Keep in mind, that it is not an exaggeration when we compare the MONARCH SPECIES Extinction with the Big Bang. These butterflies play an invisible to human eye role in our ecosystem. Once they’re gone, the circle of life will start experiencing the fallout.
Imagine a table with four legs. Take out one leg and see what will happen. You have a very vivid picture of that picture, don’t you? The same will start happening to our world, Earth, ecosystems, and our lives.
Monarch Butterflies are just one tiny particle of the magical glue that holds this world together and allows the human beings to rip the benefits of the beauty life brings.

I will do my part and make sure I plant a Milkweed. I had no idea that the species were declining
Reading this it made me think about the last time I saw any butterfly, much less a monarch….and it’s been a while. I will gladly plant a milkweed plant if it will help…heck, I’ll plant a bunch of them.
Kate,
I’m so glad that you’d be planting more!
Living in a warm climate, I will add more butterlfy-friendly plants to attract these magic creatures. We have experienced more butterfly Kaleidoscopes (group of butterflies) as never before for the past two years. All thanks to the plants and flowers we planted for them! Such a breathtaking scene!
I love butterflies it reminds me of spring and summer. We planted few flowers in a yard to attract more of this beautiful butterflies they are fun to watch.
I love monarch butterflies and it’s so sad that their numbers are declining. I had no idea that it was so easy to help. I think that planting a milkweed plant in our back yard is not just easy to do but also something my kids would also enjoy doing for the butterflies and we would love to have some in our yard, they are so beautiful!
It is so sad that a day will come that the future generations will only get to know about monarch butterflies from pictures. I think we must act now and make our gardens and surroundings butterfly friendly. Got to plant more milkweed!
I have to plant milkweed in my garden! This will be a weekend task for me. I have to do my part to save those pretty monarch butterflies.
Monarch butterflies are one of the most beautiful creatures on Earth. I was just amazed watching them in that show, “The Great Migration.” It makes me sad that their numbers are declining. I am going to plant some milkweed to give them a safe place to lay their eggs and for the caterpillars to thrive.
The Monarch Butterfly is my favorite!! I hate to see that it’s population is declining!! these are all great tips to slow the decline down.
That’s so sad that we are losing so many beautiful butterflies. Thanks for the information.
NWF also has an amazing Butterfly Heroes program. I did a blog post earlier in the year; they were giving away free Butterfly Starter Kits – maybe they still are! http://www.nwf.org/Butterfly-Heroes.aspx
When we first moved into our home, we had tons and tons of monarchs. Then they just disappeared. The past two years, we have been planting milkweeds, to no avail. We are so sad
I will definitely educate myself about the butterfly. They are very beautiful and should definitely be protected.
Monarch butterflies are so special. I will definitely be planting a milkweed plant to help them out.
This is such a great post, thank you for sharing some tips on how to help out these beautiful creatures.
Monarchs are so beautiful! We go to our local butterfly place each year to see all the lovely butterflies, but monarchs remain one of my favorites. These are good tips for helping these little guys survive!
I would love to do something like this. I am all for having butterflies around because they do a lot of pollinating. I think bugs have their place in this world and I think we should leave them alone.
Jeanette,
It’s not just about the “bugs” being left alone! It is plain simple—> Without butterflies this planet will and shall go into the oblivion. It will be gone.
What we do not know can kill us.
That is why educating ourselves about things like Monarch Butterflies will ensure the generational survival of the human and all the surrounding us species.
Surprisingly, I see a lot of butterflies across the grounds of my apartment complex. I’m not sure if all are Monarchs, but I do see one almost everyday.
I have had the opportunity to visit two butterfly houses and see these and others up close. They are so beautiful to watch both in flight and still.
It’s so sad to read about the decline of monarch butterflies. I do have milkweed in my flower garden because I love to watch beautiful butterflies flitting around. I didn’t realize I needed to plant more. I’m adding it to my to-do list.
Alli,
Great you have milkweed flowers around your home! Yes, we must support our butterflies and make a home for them everywhere we can!
I love butterflies and I know it is so sad that they are declining. I will have to see if milkweed will grow around here. Thanks for the tips!
Between my neighbor and us we have several pieces of land that use to be farm land. We put it into a farm program that is aimed at bring back natural wildlife and birds, butterflies. It is on year three and it is amazing to see all the butterflies, bees, birds and wildlife coming back.
Candy,
More power to you, my awesome friend!
