Insulin has a very important role in our body. It controls blood sugar. Being overweight contributes to the body’s insulin resistance and weight gain.
That is why knowing the simple principles of how to avoid developing insulin resistance, we can definitely lead a healthy fulfilling life.
Check out a quick video with graphs that show how internal inflammation contributes to insulin resistance and weight gain.
Insulin And Insulin Resistance
Every time you down a carb-laden meal or sugary drink that makes your blood sugar skyrocket, your body responds by releasing insulin. The job of is insulin is to pull extra glucose, i.e., sugar from the bloodstream.
Overdo it on pasta, bread, or sweets, and insulin – which has been released on much larger scale than necessary multiple times a day – can cause those excess calories to be stored as fat.
In some cases, extra pounds can lead to insulin resistance, a condition in which cells become less responsive to the hormone, and then to diabetes.
How to Control Insulin In Your Body With Food
You can control the amount of insulin your body produces and how well your cells respond to it by cutting back on foods that cause the biggest spikes in blood sugar.
According to a study in Circulation, soft drinks account for a full thirds of the added sugars in our diets. Nixing them is a great start.
Processed, refined carbs like white pasta and bread, many desserts cause such spikes in blood sugar. Trade such refined sugar options for foods with more fiber per serving that will be a key ingredient for a more even-keeled insulin response.
Spacing out your meals and snacks so that you’re eating smaller portions at more frequent intervals throughout the day is another smart way to maintain consistent levels of glucose and insulin.

Definitely not something to play around with! A good diet is a must!
I swear eating right can fix almost anything!!!! I def try to eat a balanced diet. It can be tricky sometimes, buts it’s worth it
I had gestational diabetes when I was pregnant and cut all sugar out and haven’t turned back since. I no longer deal with diabetes but Spacing out my meals made and is making a huge difference in keeping my energy levels up.
A balanced diet is really important. I’ve beet cutting off on sugar to lose weight and it’s been really hard! I crave for sweets a lot, good thing the protein shake I’m taking is sweet and kindof makes up for it! <3
This is really interesting. It’s not always easy to keep that a good balance with diet. Some of us have to really work at it. I’ve made some major changes to improve mine this year. Just waiting to feel the difference.
I think it’s really important to have balance in your diet plans. They key is for dieting to be sustainable, you should really enjoy the process and not feel burdened by it. Taking out softdrinks can really take away a lot of unwanted sugar in the system.
I’m so thankful that I don’t have to deal with measuring and monitoring my insulin. I can definitely tell, however, when my sugar intake is getting a little wonky because I feel “off.” Drinking water always helps, though.
Many factors love to sabotage our path to a healthier weight. I have hypothyroidism and even with a pill, my metabolism hates me. Having healthier eating habits will definitely help to minimize issues. Great post!

Moderation is key. That’s what I am finding. It can be hard to stop after a few bites of something delicious though!
This is really helpful advice. It’s really nice when you know exactly how our body will respond to certain foods.
What an interesting topic to have. I had no idea that hormonal insulin could effect weight and now I know so I can try to be more aware. I should make healthier eating habits for sure!
Eating healthy is so important for a good, balanced diet. When I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes i changed everything and now that baby is born, I am going to keep going on this healthy path. I had no idea how much insulin was really impacting my life until then.
Its so important to make healthy lifestyle choices. I never realized what a big effect insulin has on weight loss. This is a very informative article.
Eating a balanced diet is so important. You can’t just live off carbs alone, no matter how bad you want to.
A balanced meal really does help with how you feel! I am a firm believer in what you eat is what you are! This is a great post! I learned a lot!
When I overdo it on the pasta and bread, I break out in fat! I have to really watch it when it comes to those items. I try to only eat bread on special occasions.
I think eating a balanced diet is the key to a healthy life in general. I think we all need to evaluate our diets.
