Duck Egg Hatching – Happy Birthday Baby Duck!

This duck egg hatching story began a week ago.

Being surrounded by all kinds of birds, you would assume people developed reverence and extra sense of protecting the wild life around them.  Just about a week ago, one of the nesting duck’s nests was destroyed viciously. By some miracle, one of the eggs survived that brutal attack, being hidden under a pile of leaves and shrubs.

Without knowing whether there’s life in it or not, we took it in, put a warm lamp over it to generate as close to Mother Duck’s warmth as possible. FYI: Mama Duck abandoned the nest.

We did not hear anything or even felt any life inside that egg. After 3 days of care and careful handling, and turning under the warm light, we heard: Tuk-Tuk-Tuk. It was a baby Duck letting us know he’s alive and ready to face this world. We were so excited for it!

Here are the first indentations on the egg shell. It took a baby Duck 24 hours – from these little cracks in the shell to the full hatching – to be born.

Here’s a Video of our baby Duck being born.

Happy Birthday, Chirpy! We called him Chirpy for his LOUD voice he’s been chirping with inside the egg!

He was born and ready to be nurtured to healthy state!

We are in the process of transitioning him into the local Bird Rescue Sanctuary.

And here’s Chirpy 4 days-old!
