To avoid frustrations at the high-school level and give your child the best chances for a more successful education time in the years to come, start playing building blocks with them!
Building Blocks Are Essential For Your Child’s Imagination
It is so much well known and proved that toys like building blocks develop and improve hand-eye coordination, and allow spatial thinking and imagination to take over some very important brain functions, like having a much better and well-behaved child. What happens within the brain is truly magical. At the very early stages of a child’s life, many functions, skills, and ways of thinking are being formed based on what type of learning environment a child is exposed to.
That is why some of the very important toys that need to be in every baby’s collection is building blocks.

What else is out there to look for before the actual fun begins?
Non-Toxic Surface
The best choice is when the building blocks, or any toy, are made out of clean, non-toxic materials and paints. Some of the best options are clear, no color finish. Obviously, color is a huge issue, but still, shapes and sizes of individual pieces can truly take over the color option during an engaging play time.
Finishing Quality & Wood Softness
If you have a baby that is still at her chewing stage, consider the quality of the finished goods. Mainly, it is the softness of the wooden surface. Some wooden toys are made out of soft building material and could be easily chewed on and swallowed by your baby. Opt for high quality finish. It may cost a little bit more, but such building-blocks-type toys would be safer and would last your family for a long, long time.
Consider the Size
The younger your child, the bigger size of the building blocks she needs. It’s all about play and fun, rather than being quickly disappointed at small-size blocks that could easily collapse. Baby’s motor skills are not top-notch yet. So, go for bigger size blocks to truly engage your little one.

Why We Love Brio Building Blocks:
- Made out of Wood
- Has Natural Colored Finish
- Hand Sanded with Quality Finish
- Generous Variety of Shapes
My 4-year-old got really excited when he got the Brio set. He only had plastic building blocks before this one arrived. But now, he would be attempting to build with wood! He noticed the difference right away and commented on it, “It feels different, mama.” I explained the difference between “wood” and “plastic.” Hey, another new thing he learned in this comparison!
I was watching him constructing with Brio blocks on several occasions without our direct supervision. At this age, this toddler is really exercising his imagination. As he was building his creations, he was playing it out and commenting what it’s supposed to be.
Being a bit smaller in size than their plastic counterparts, Brio blocks are very stable and go smoothly and neatly together when building tall constructions. Different shapes really allow a child to benefit from endless options to imagine and to build.
What’s interesting, my toddler incorporated Brio Building Blocks with other of his toys. So, every day during his happy hours of play, he is all in his world of imagination and fantasy. As a parent, I do encourage such plays with toys that could truly equip my child with unsurpassable innate skills that would help him not only at high school but during his whole life.
They stock a fantastic selection of baby and nursery stuff in their online shop including furniture, feeding equipment, toys, activities, safety and travel stuff, all at great prices.
