There are so many varieties of lamps for work and studying! I could easily be lost and sold on those that look cool and accommodate my home interior design. However, I am constantly reminding myself that the light sources we live and work with affect our eye health and ultimately our well-being.
How To Decide Which Light And Lamp Is Good for Your Eyes
That is why after having reviewed the latest research and finding on the light sources and their effect on our eyes, I decided to put together this post with the tips and examples of the best light for eye health.

Which Light is Good for Reading and Work at the Computer?
Optimal eye health does come with growing up with good healthy habits. I remember my mother constantly reminding me and my siblings to read with ample amount of light, not to strain eyes by sitting too close to the TV screen, and holding a good posture even when we were reading a book in a cosy armchair.
Repeated lack of light and long-term exposure to bad habits breed health consequences. Bad eye sight is one of them.
As we are living life surrounded with endless number of electronics, we need to take care of our precious peeps – our eyes.
When we work long hours at the computer, it is recommended by the medical professionals to take our eyes away from the screens every 30 minutes and do eye exercises that take about 60 to 90 seconds.
Do you belong to the category of people who are consistent with this routine? For instance, about every hour, I take brakes from my computer station and get my heart rate up, do some stretches for lower back, hips, arms and hands, and to eye toning and lubricating exercises as well.
I go hand-in-hand with research and innovative products that are developed to accommodate our lifestyle by offering healthier solutions for a work space, eye health included.
One of my favorite products to support my eyesight and preserve my night vision as well has been BenQ lamps. Their LED technology has been developed in a way to create a light stream for the eyes that matches the light saturation during the day. One of my favorite functions is that I can easily adjust the light softness depending on my needs.
The latest technological wonder for the healthy eyes is BenQ ScreenBar e-Reading LED Task Lamp.
BenQ with Auto-Dimming And Hue Adjustment Features
When we work at the computer for hours on end, it is important to prevent eye strain. BenQ ScreenBar is glare free thanks to the asymmetrical optical technology incorporated into its design. The light from the lamp illuminates the desk and has zero reflective glare on the computer screen.
I have been using this lamp for my work during the day and late night hours. The automatic feature allows the light to come on when the brightness from the natural light reduces. I really love this feature. But I did experiment with the feature that manually adjusts the brightness and warmness of the light.
For the day, I prefer a cool light that allows me to focus better. During the evening hours, I love a warmer light to calm down the overall bodily systems before I call it a day.

Space Saving Light Is Optimal for Any Home Office
This cool BenQ lamp is optimal for eye health and is so easy on the office space as well. With one clip movement, this ScreenBar e-Reading LED lamp creates an office environment to help my eyes to see without strain.

The clip fits any monitor with thickness from 0.4 “ to 1.2” (1 to 3 cm).
BenQ ScreenBar e-Reading Task Lamp is USB-Powered
You can take this powerful light source to support your eye health and optimal work space anywhere you go! The energy source for this lamp comes from your electronic device or any source that has a USB connection. Classic design goes hand-in-hand with its uncluttered look and very specific function – to provide good lighting to the eyes all day and night long if necessary.

How To Stop Eye Strain
The best way to avoid eye strain is to choose the right light source for your work, reading, crafting and even cooking. It is recommended to go with Full Spectrum Lighting, the type of bulbs that simulate natural sunlight and provide a balance of brightness and contrast. Examples of such light sources are BlueMax, Verilux, OttLight.
LED lamps and bulbs are safe for work and modern versions do offer amazing features like dimming. They come in a range of colors, too. Like BenQ lamp, LED lights can provide warm light.
AVOID At ALL Times These Light Sources
Cool fluorescent lights are one of the sources of eye diseases. The majority of offices were built with bright fluorescent installations. Many homes, to follow a trend and enhance the ambiance of the interior design, were following the same mistake of the office spaces. The light we live and work with does affect our eye health.
Tips for Optimal Eye Health for Longevity
Get regular eye exams. Eve if you think your vision is 20:20, you still need to check with your ophthalmologist once a year as a precaution. You will be updated on the latest in eye health and tips to keep your peeps in optimal health.
Consider computer eyewear, the special eye glasses that filter blue light and reduce eye strain. Such computer glasses help to keep an optimal distance between the monitor and our eyes which helps the eyes to keep in focus longer. Do look for anti-reflective coating and a light ting on these specialized glasses.
Arrange your work space so that the distance between the monitor and your eyes are about 20 to 28 inches. Also adjust the monitor angle so you are looking slightly down at the screen.
Take frequent breaks from the computer screen. Every 30 minutes, do look away as far away as you can for about 20 seconds. This simple exercise reduces strain on the eyes.
Keep your eyes moist by blinking frequently! Get non-medicated eye drops when you work long hours at the computer.
Avoid watching TV in total darkness. Use good backlight behind your TV set to prevent eye strain.
Protect your eyes from the sunlight by wearing polarized eye glasses all year round.
Get your work done during regular daylight hours when possible.
Eye health is easy to maintain with simple, yet effective tips. Planning for an optimal work and living space could be one of your best contributions to your optimal eye health.

excellent tips! I work a lot on the computer and I know how easy it is to get eye strain. I see so many younger teens nowadays who have to rely on glasses because their eyes have issues due to using cell phones so much. I love that really cool light you have attached to the top of the computer screen as well, it looks good and definitely is good for the eyesight too. I have to think about eventually getting specialty glasses for my eyes to protect from damaging light from the computer so I appreciate your tips and article.
These are some very useful tips. I am on my computer at least 8 to 10 hours a day!
Donna,
8 hours is a bit too much, too long!
Please take care of your precious peeps! They’re given only once to us. And we need to pay a price when something goes wrong with them.
Just taking your eyes off the screen for a few seconds every 30-40 mins would add to your well-being.
‘EASY and FREE’ does not mean everybody will jump on the wagon to practice these things.
Just pick one thing you could do today and practice it daily, then add on one more and so on.
Very informative and will definitely incorporate these tips every day.
Helpful tips. I spend a lot of time at a computer. Will try some of these tips. Thanks
Great tips, having eye issues and I appreciate your information.
(How To Decide Which Light And Lamp Is Good for Your Eyes) I had been having problems with my eyes getting super tired very quickly after being on the computer. I am glad I read more about this problem here.
These are great tips, and are very helpful! I definitely need to follow them.
Shakeia,
Eyes are especially non-forgiving with age!
Invest in your eye health today. Do eat a ton of antioxidants and use adequate lightening when reading, watching TV and crafting.
Thanks for the tips, walking away from the screen is my main problem. I have been trying recently to get up and stretch and rest my eyes more often. I love this light, I need one like that for my husband, he complains because he doesn’t have a light keyboard. It would be perfect.
Karen,
What many do not realize that during the TV watching time, it is recommended to use that light behind the TV set. Makes a HUGE difference. Try a small lamp behind your television when you watch it in the dark.
It is my culprit, I’ve been loving the TV in total darkness. But eyes don’t lie.
Protect them now!

A Light eye lamp would be amazing to have I am on my laptop daily for hours at a time blogging or entering sweeps. I would love to have one.
Hmm. I wonder if I should try something like this. I spend way too much time at the computer.
Thank you! Thank you! I HAD to pin this! When I worked on a pc at work, we were given the non-glare screens to put over our CRT and we were told to get up every hour for 5 minutes to move our legs and keep your blood circulation going. But the rest of your tips are going to be my new routine! I am now a Diabetic. On more than one occasion, my eyesight has gotten blurry! I want to do everything I can to save my eyes!
Thank you for the tips!
Maintaining eye health is so important. I read constantly so i want my eye sight to last all my life so i never have to be uncomfortable reading. I also work on the computer day and night. I appreciate the advice about taking a break and doing an eye exercise- i never thought to do that! I am implementing that immediately.
This lamp would be great for us! Thanks for the great information on eye health!
I know eye health is important but I never thought about the lighting. I may have to look into getting one of these.
Our eye health is so important. I am on the computer alot at work and at home. This light sounds great. I love that you can control its softness. Thank you so much for sharing
I have never seen a lamp that goes over the computer like this before. What a smart idea!
I could use a lamp for my computer, thank you for the information.
Thanks for your tips
Interesting. I usually don’t use a lamp at my computer, and have blue blocking on my glasses, so it isn’t as harsh on my eyes.
Bonnie,
The special glasses do help to get rid of extra strain. Using special lighting will also contribute to your eye total health.
Love these tips. My eyes really become strained while working in low light.
These tips and lamps will be really great for my family. Everyone in our household uses electronic devices, and my mom and two sisters all wear glasses.
I really need to get away from the screen more often. And yet, here I am.
Richard,
It’s OK to enjoy the screen time. Just remind yourself to do at least the minimum for your eyes: look far away for 20 seconds, circle around with your eyes, and simply just give them rest away from the screen.
When I started doing it every hour, I did feel a HUGE difference how I feel at the end of the work day.
Great post!
