There are so many people who are waiting with all of their passion to go on a vacation… in a summer time. There’s nothing wrong with it. Actually, it is great news that people do take vacation. I guess what is overlooked during this time is actually resting from all the hustle and bustle of the places and situation we are trying to get away from.
It doesn’t matter whether you are going to travel thousands miles away or stay near-by to get what you’re looking for during your time “on vacation.” What matters is that you get your soul and your physical body into the space and place where you will find a true sensational therapy from all that has been bothering you for a long time.
Vacation times are for YOU and Your needs. Take this time seriously. Spend it with retrospection. Gain some invaluable insights that peaceful being could provide to you. And yes, take all of that ambiance along with you when you return back to your pre-vacation life (some call it “normal” life?)
How do busy executives take their vacations? Differently. But what really unites them are those small tips they use during their time off. No surprise when you can’t reach your boss when she Is on vacation.
I asked Rebecca Alvandi, the energized and super busy woman-entrepreneur and owner of Maxim to share with us her tips for a successful and rejuvenating vacation. She said, “It’s so simple what we all can do to get what we want – a true vacation.”
“Stay-cation” Tips For A Woman Like You
Vacations are great and we all have a dream trip planned whether it’s to Cabo or Cancun, but sometimes a girl has to kick back on the couch and just chill! We, at Maxim Hygiene, know the feeling well. All you want to do is stay home, get some R&R, pamper yourself, eat a tub of ice cream and watch that rom-com you haven’t had time for.
For everyone in the midst of their “stay-cation,” here are a few helpful hints to make the most of your last few days and ensure you have a good time.
1. Get in the vacation state of mind
See the italics? The word itself oozes relaxation. For those of us who work at home, or who get stressed over menial chores, it’s difficult to feel like we’re on vacation while inside the house.
To get into this mood, we recommend indulgence – something we know well! Splurge on things that you normally don’t buy. Hire a cleaning service to clean your house for the week, take a bath with expensive bath salts, or simply light a fire. It’s easy to make slight differences to your routine that can make your day at home a stay-cation instead of an unproductive, wasted day.
For the love of all that is feminine, DO NOT do that thing that you’ve been putting off for ages. You’ve been putting it off for a reason. You can do it later.
2. Think about turning off your electronic devices
... like cell phones and work related paraphernalia!
It’s too easy to get bogged down by electronics. Staying connected to our friends, reading the news, playing our Words with Friends games and Facebook stalking could easily take up an entire day. TVs, computers, and phones can be burdens – we feel obligated to return messages and tempted to keep checking for updates. They rule our lives! In fact, some scholars have found phone alerts and usage have similar effects as drugs do on our mental health!
De-stress and unburden your self by getting the best out of your free time. Enjoy the real world – get outside or meet people in person to enjoy their company.
3. Make your meals ‘exotic’
Steer clear of the dishes you eat weekly or the easy-to-prepare meals that you tolerate throughout the year.
Order in from that Thai place you’ve seen but never been or even just get that personal, extra-cheesy pie from Dominos you used to hanker after as a child. A healthier alternative is to plan the week’s list beforehand and prepare some new meals. Download cool sounding recipes, play some music and try making Szechuan Tofu or your own version of a Cobb Salad. Liven up your palate with some new meal templates. Who knows, the rest of the year may turn out to be much tastier?
4. Think about hosting a girls night in
Get your best friends over for some baking and the pampering. Paint your nails, shave those legs (or let that hair grow wild and free). Share makeup tips, play board games, or sing along with karaoke!
While the brownies or cupcakes are baking in the oven, pop in your all time favorite movies (even those guilty pleasure movies) and compare notes about your director dreams, favorite male star, or best kiss scene!
5. Go shopping!
If you’ve been holding on to gift cards or your holiday bonus money, make the best of it. Go to a mall you rarely allow yourself to go to and spend all day trying on jeans that make your butt look perfect.
If you’re just going shopping for the female essentials, like tampons, buy the best – organic and all natural cotton. Maxim Hygiene is our favorite and should be for all those women who care about the environment, and try to be eco-friendly. Not to mention, health conscious consumers!
From the Green Queen Headquarters, we wish you the best of all vacations, whether you decide to stay home or not.

I’ve done a lot of those things, but not all together at one time. I can see how doing them all at once would feel like a vacation. I keep thinking at some point I should rent a hotel room where I live, get room service and go to all the tourist places around town I’ve never been to before. And if I got a hotel room, the girls night in could be even more fun – no cleaning or cooking for me!
I love the idea of a girls night in. Now that would definitely set the tone for a Staycation holiday spirit around here.
Phone off, kids out is how i do it. I love the idea of staycation. Eating out in the backyard is what we do.
This is great! I love staycations! <3 I think it's the best! Love your article!
XOXO
Having a great time wherever you are at is important. And the ability to be present is even more important. I definitely agree with putting the electronic devices away if at all possible. It’s so important.
David,
You’re right at it – To Be Present in the Moment makes all things enjoyable and more meaningful.
These are great ideas and tips for when you need a vacation but can afford to go far away!
Stay-cation?! This sounds interesting. These are great tips.
I’ve never heard of a staycation before but now that I have it’s all I can think about. I was planning a trip to continental Europe but you’ve got me rethinking now.

I love your tips for planning a Staycation. And I agree that turning off electronics is an absolute must. Hosting a girls’ night would be so much fun!
I love traveling with my kiddos, but traveling can be so exhausting. Having a nice, relaxing stay-cation sounds perfect right now!
From my experience, the moment the cell phone is turned off, the amount of fun one have almost doubles, no distractions, just fun 🙂
It definitely has to start with turning mobiles off..
We love staycations. We have a little rv so we often go to local places in it. I love your advice!
Yes, I am ALL about shopping 😉 Normally we do stay put and visit the areas around us but this summer we actually get to GO somewhere. Yay! But I love your tips. I do try to limit my electrical devices whenever I’m on vacation.
I love staycations! I even turn off my phone so no one can call me.
Great tips! I actually live in a tourist town and always forget to take advantage of everything right in my own backyard, hehe. Always a nice budget friendly alternative than taking an actual vacation somewhere.
I’m not sure I would know how to act if I turned off al my electronic devices. However, I do think I could manage the shopping!
