Skin care loves consistency. When you show up with your daily skin care routine, then skin will deliver in the form of health and beautiful looks. And sea buckthorn skin benefits come very handy here!
I’ve been growing up eating and using Sea buckthorn berry for medicinal purposes from the home-made remedies for the major part of my life. This small in size and bright in color superfruit boasts some of the most powerful properties you could ever get from or anywhere else.
Any day is a good opportunity to slow down and re-evaluate what we eat, what we wear on our skin, what we do for our heart and soul, and how our lifestyle effects our health overall.
Without further ado, here’s my list of the sea buckthorn skin benefits you can use in your skin care routine.
Sea Buckthorn Anti-Inflammatory Properties
Inside each Sea buckthorn berry with a tight outer skin lies the property that is the Key to any disease out there. This is an Anti-Infllammatory affect the produces enormous health benefits. Just look at this list of benefits for different systems and organs:
β’Cardiotonic
β’Stomachic
β’Dermatropic
β’Antioxidant
β’Anti-Radiation
β’Blood Fat Reducing
β’Pro-Blood Circulation
β’Pro-Natural Healing
β’Healthy Cholesterol Maintenance
The list can go on and on. But the effect is positively phenomenal.
Sea Buckthorn Boasts of Complete Omega Fatty Acids
It is a rare coincidence that Sea buckthorn is a host to a Complete Family of the Omegas: 3, 6, 9, including the rarest Omega-7 as well.
These Omega fatty acids have proven to maintain healthy cardiovascular, digestive, nervous, immune systems. Do you remember to eat a couple of servings of fish every week to get your Omega-3’s? In Sea buckthorn, you get it all in one seating!
The uniqueness of this small berry lies in high concentration of Omega-7 fatty acid, also known as Palmitoleic Acid. It maintains the integrity of the cell walls. That is why dermatologists love products with high concentrations of Omega-7!
Cremes used in cosmetics and medicine with Omega-7 in high concentrations are designed for such conditions as psoriasis, eczema, rosacea, burns, and wounds of all kinds.
Sea Buckthorn Homemade Face Mask
To capture the skin benefits of the sea buckthorn oil to the maximum, include sea buckthorn berries into your diet and make DIY skin masks.
Here’s an example of one of the easiest and affordable homemade face masks using sea buckthorn berries.
As our skin is a protective mechanism for the entire body, it is being bombarded with all kinds of pathogens and irritants around the clock.
For your Sea Buckthorn DIY Mask grab these ingredients:
– 1 Tbs Greek Yogurt or Aloe Vera gel (get a bottle of a good quality gel HERE, and it will last!)
– 1 Tbs Sea Buckthorn berries (mashed in a food processor, I use Vitamix)
Mix these two ingredients together and apply all over your face and dΓ©colletΓ© if you can. Wash off with cool water after 10 minutes.
If you use Greek yogurt as a base for this face mask, the mask will dry up and form a thin crust on the skin. I use cool water to wash it off. The mask does not pull the skin or becomes uncomfortable on the face though.
If you like soft face masks, use Aloe Vera gel. Aloe vera is an excellent base for many DIY face masks.
Clearly, adding some tools like this easy homemade Sea Buckthorn Face Mask supports your skin structure and truly contributes to your anti-aging feel and look.

Sea Buckthorn Is a Source To A Complex Network of Antioxidants
There are over 190 phytonutrients including all the Omegas-3,6,9 and rare Omega-7 inside sea buckthorn. One of the most fascinating elements, at least for me, is Superoxide Dismutase (SOD).
In fact, SOD is a super antioxidant that repairs cellular damage caused by free radicals. Therefore, it is an effective tool for age-related damage to the skin and tissues, such as wrinkles. SOD is a powerful anti-inflammatory and helps reduce inflammation in the body that can lead to fibromyalgia and gastrointestinal disorders, and a long list of other diseases and discomforts.

I was just wondering what sea buckthorn oil is and where it comes from. Thanks for the info.
Beth,
Sea buckthorn oil comes from the sea buckthorn berries. If it is pure oil, you need just a tiny bit of it to use on your skin and hair. I’ve been using the products made of sea buckthorn all my life.
Look for the berries grown in the higher elevation, in the Himalayas! The potency of the berries is super higher when the plant is grown high in the mountains, as it has to withstand cold, heat, UV and quick change of weather conditions.
I never heard about these Sea Buckthorn berries. But seems like it’s useful, I will search for these berries.

Kathy,
Try just adding pure sea buckthorn berries into your foods: smoothies, salads, pure them with a bit of Manuka honey.
As you see from the post, these berries are “stomachic,” meaning “assisting digestion.”
Thanks to many medicinal and profilactic features these berries have, the overall effect on our bodies is truly of well-being and support of all systems.
I have to be honest, I have NEVER heard of these berries. It’s a very interesting post though. I’ll start looking for this to be in my skincare, etc. Thank you so much for bringing up something like this, because I know I’m not the only one that hasn’t heard of them!
I have never heard of this, but anything anti-inflammatory would be great for me!
Thanks for this information. I only new about using it as an oil for skin. Wow
Products that have Anti-Inflammatory properties are what I need.
Leela,
You will definitely get the anti-inflammatory properties in Sea Buckthorn berries. I use them for cooking, salads, and yes, for my DIY in skin care.
I went to horticulture school and studied herbs for a bit. This is one we must have skipped over. I will have to read more on it. I adore plants with anti-inflammatory properties, inflammation is the source of so many ailments.
Athena,
Definitely read up on sea buckthorn!
I grew up with this berry. My mom used to make jams with it, some unique ones, too. The jams for colds and flu were used during winter to thwart any infections and colds.
Truly magical.
I have tried soap made with buckthorn and liked it.
Polly,
Try the pure berries: add them to the teas, salads, make jams with them.
I use pure berries for my skin care DIY recipes and keep them in the fridge.
The acidity is very low, around 3.0, and it prevents anything pathogenic to grow inside!
I have not heard of the sea buckthorn skin benefits until I read your post here now I must check it out thanks for sharing this one.
Heather,
Sea Buckthorn has been under the radar for the most part. Those of us who grew up with the berry, know how potent it is.
My mom used to make special recipes with sea buckthorn to be used for flu and colds during the winter time. Just a couple of spoons a day of that jam would get us out of the cold much easier and quicker.
It sounds like it has a lot of beneficial uses.
It is a truly golden berry for healing and keeping off diseases.
fun to try
I had seen this a few years ago. I had no idea that it had so many benefits. Kind of surprised it is not used more in skin care.
Chris,
You can eat it, drink it, lather your skin with it. Nothing, but pure goodness.
Another way to improve our health. I had never heard of these berries before.
Joey,
Depends where you grew up. These Sea Buckthorn bushes were growing in people’s yards where I used to live.
My family would make jams with this berry. But the ultimate purpose of growing this bush was to make a special recipe for colds and flu season during winter.
My mom used to give us just a couple of spoonfuls of this berry jam when we had colds and flu. The anti-inflammatory properties would bring the illness down in no time and made it much milder.
I am using this berry now in my own food recipes and skin DIY as well. It is a true gem.
Anything would be better than the nothing now that I am doing to my skin..
Mya,
Just take a breath and begin doing just one thing for yourself. Any mask for your face and decollete would be your self-care routine. Once you adjust and get used to it, add something new to your skin regimen.
Small steps will get you rip amazing results.

Interesting! I’ve never even heard of Sea Buckthorn. I’d be interested in it as a mask, but am a little skeptical of eating it.

To be very honest, I have never heard of this berry. After reading this post and knowing itβs health benefits…I am going to look for it. Thanks for sharing.
Mayri,
Depends where we were raised. We actually grew a tree with sea buckthorn berries. My mom used to make jams and special concoctions for the winter. When we had flu or cold, we would take a few spoonfuls of sea buckthorn several times a day. That was our medicine.
This berry has enormous anti-inflammatory properties, that’s how you can explain its high healing abilities.
Looks like a good product with the omegas and the anti-oxidant benefits. Was not aware of buckthorn, new idea for me. Great.
